Abstract
This
project investigated
child abuse and its corollaries
in increasing youth violence in Ughelli metropolis, Ughelli North Local
Government Area, Delta State
. To achieve this, four (4) research questions and their corresponding
hypotheses were drawn and formulated respectively.  The descriptive survey research method was
used to examine the study, in which one hundred (100) respondents were drawn
using the stratified and accidental sampling techniques. The instrument for
data collection was the structured questionnaire and data collected were
analysed using the frequency distribution table, percentage and chi-square
statistics at alpha 0.05 level of significance.  The results obtained revealed that (i) there
is significant occurrence of child abuse among the people in Ughelli metropolis
(ii) there are the possible causes of child abuse among the people in Ughelli
metropolis. Based on this, the researcher recommends that (i) there should be
adequate awareness on the impact of child abuse and parents and relatives
should be urged to uphold the rights of the child (ii) Government should
enforce all laws prohibiting the violation of the right of the child.
