JOB DESCRIPTION

The Outdoor School Program Leader position provides primary support to the
Outdoor School Program at Cheakamus Centre. Opportunities to work in a
facilitation capacity with other educational programs may be possible. Duties
to be undertaken will include assisting with recreation programs during the
afternoon, mentoring and working alongside high-school counsellors, and
assisting with training and supervision of counsellors.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Supervise and facilitate recreation programs
• Train, mentor and supervise high school counsellors
• Facilitate meal service and supervise students at meals
• Maintain safety and well-being of students as part of program staff team
• Provide support on field studies as needed
• Assist Program Coordinator in updating program materials and maintain program
supplies
• Other duties as required by Program Coordinator

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• First Aid OFA Level 1 required – OFA Level 2 preferred
• Experience working with youth and children in an outdoor educational setting
• Experience mentoring youth in leadership development
• Strong interest in developing personal leadership skills
• Work effectively independently and in a collaborative team environment
• Work varied hours including early mornings and occasional weekends
• Friendly, positive and enthusiastic demeanour
• Strong communication skills including ability to provide constructive
feedback to youth
• Valid driver’s license – own transportation to site required

• Experience and/or interest in nature interpretation and outdoor environmental
programming and recreational activities

COMPENSATION

$14.00/hr (20-26 hours per program week)
