Centre for Earth
Evolution and Dynamics (CEED) is inviting applications for 1-2 vacant
research positions for a period of 3 years in Paleoclimate
modelling. Positions are open for researcher and postdoctoral
research fellow. Applicants should hold a doctoral degree. Expected
start date in Summer/Autumn 2014. Documented background in climate modelling
is an absolute requirement, either for current or paleoclimate conditions, with
good knowledge about the interplay between the components of the climate
system. The applicant should have at least 2 years research experience
after his/her degree for research position. The application deadline
is 11 May, 2014.
Study
Subject (s): Positions are available
in Paleoclimate Modelling at the Centre for Earth Evolution and Dynamics
(CEED), Norway.
Course Level: Positions are
open for researcher and postdoctoral research fellow at Centre for Earth
Evolution and Dynamics (CEED), Norway .

Scholarship can
be taken at: Norway
Eligibility:
-The Faculty
of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being a leading
research faculty. Candidates
for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to
be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.
-Applicants should hold a doctoral degree. Documented background in climate
modelling is an absolute requirement, either for current or paleoclimate
conditions, with good knowledge about the interplay between the components of
the climate system (atmosphere, ocean, land surface). Technical skills
necessary for modifying and configuring a climate model to past conditions are
also required. Experience with climatic proxy data over geological time scales
will be valued.
-The candidate should document research on an internationally competitive
level. Ability and preference for working in teams are highly valued qualities.
-A good command of English is required
-Additional requirements for the Researcher position: They
call upon a Researcher at senior level. The applicant should have at least 2
years research experience after his/her degree. Experience in initiation and
management of large inter-institutional projects and networks, in particular EU
projects, is desirable. Application for supplementary European and Norwegian
funding will be encouraged. A candidate who is successful in attracting
external funding will stand a high chance in extending the three year term.
Scholarship
Open for International Students: Norwegian
and International researchers can apply for these research positions.

Description: The
main goal of the newly established Norwegian Center of Excellence CEED is to
develop models that explain how mantle processes drive plate tectonics and
trigger massive volcanism and associated environmental and climate changes
throughout Earth’s history. Research on paleoclimates is one of CEED core
activities. Researchers in the “Dynamic Earth” and “Earth Crises” groups aim to
understand the interactions between solid earth carbon degassing in continental
and oceanic areas and the resulting atmospheric and biospheric impacts, on a
range of temporal scales. We call upon a researcher at senior level. A
long term goal with the climate modelling in CEED is to build upon our expertise
in plate tectonic modelling and volcanic system studies and reconstruct global
paleo-environments at selected times in the geological past. In particular we
would like to implement our results into high complexity climate modelling, and
the successful candidate is expected to contribute to these
activities. CEED provides a stimulating and well-funded research
environment and offers a broad interdisciplinary computation and numerical
simulation environment. Access to local and national supercomputer facilities
is also available.
