Sufferers of migraine would not stop to imagine how such a seemingly, almost overlooked ailment could cause such a torturing feeling to them. Migraine, a condition that differs from simple headache in several ways. For instance, unlike random headache, migraines follow a recurring pattern. Also, the condition is severe enough to make the sufferer abandon normal activities.
The symptoms are usually throbbing pains which may affect only one side of the head, sufferers may become nauseated and unable to bear bight light. These condition can last between hours to several days. Before migraine attack, some victims have such symptoms as cold hands, fatigue, hunger, change of mood, dizziness, buzzing sound in the ears, pins-and-needle sensation, double vision, speech difficulty or muscle weakness.
The major causes of migraine are yet to be completely understood. But due to the throbbing nature of the pain, it is reasonable to assume the movement of blood through irritated blood vessel in the head. The Journal Emergency Medicine say: “patients with migraine inherit a uniquely sensitive nervous system, which can be disrupted by numerous life events, such as sleep deprivation, strong odour, travelling, skipping meals, stress and change in hormone levels.” Sufferers of migraine may also be susceptible to irritable bowel syndrome, anxiety attacks and depression.
How To Relieve Migraine
Having discovered that migraine is a factor of inherited nervous system, and you cannot change your nervous system, it could be meaningfully handled by changing some of your lifestyle. Make conscious effort to determine the cycle and avoid any excess activities like hard work, heat or cold, loud noise, spicy food which could trigger on a migraine attack. Stay calm and exercise moderation in everything you are doing during this cycle. Even if you are not able to identify or avoid things that can trigger on your migraine, there are other ways to reduce the possibility of an attach. Experts recommend trying to maintain a regular sleep pattern, change in caffeine consumption by limiting yourself to two cups of coffee or two cola drinks per day, avoid skipping meals, avoiding too much stress and finding ways to relax when stressed.
Treatment For Migraine
Sleep is one of the best remedies for migraine. Pain killers can also bring tremendous relief to sufferers. A new class of prescription medicine ‘triptans’ was made available in 1993 for treating migraine. The Medical Journal of Australia called this “The advent of the triptans … was to migraine and clustered headache almost the equivalent of penicillin to bacterial infection!” Still all medicine have their own disadvantages so also the triptans. First, each tablet of migraine can cost as much as a meal in a nice restaurant, so it is reserved for people with moderate or severe cases of migraine. Also, some peoples health condition makes it impossible for them to try it and there had been causes which have shown that triptan do not work for everybody.
In the light of these, living a life of moderation, staying calm even at the face of stress and finding time for appropriate relaxation is the most advised means of dealing with migraine.
