Description
CARE International
in Ghana Country Office is inviting applications from qualified persons to fill
the position of a PROGRAM
COORDINATOR – WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT.
The Women’s
Empowerment Program Coordinator will lead the completion of the program design
process, working in a participatory way with other CARE colleagues,
stakeholders in Ghana and with communities themselves.
S/he is responsible
for overall leadership, strategic direction, management, implementation and
development of the WEP in accordance with the Program Strategy and
initiatives/projects within the program. The WEP is responsible for the
maintenance of CARE collaborative engagement within the development community
at regional, national and global level.
Key
Responsibilities:
- Continuing
the participatory process undertaken thus far, complete the development of
the program strategy, in close consultation with other stakeholders within
and beyond CARE, of a comprehensive program strategy to deliver the goals
and objectives of CARE Ghana’s Women’s Empowerment Program and
Strategic Plan - Ensure
the program strategy draws on a comprehensive situational analysis and
specifies clear geographical and sectoral/thematic focus areas for the
program - Establish
and strengthen thematic teams with the program. - Develop
a short, standalone ‘strategic brief’ for each of the program pathways
summarizing how the pathways will be delivered, and providing a basis for
project design and proposal development - Lead
the dissemination of the program strategy to build support amongst key
stakeholders including national and local government, civil society, the
private sector and CARE Member Partners (CMPs/CI members). - Design
and implement program approaches and methodologies aimed towards community
empowerment, and civil society strengthening - Lead
regular planning, monitoring and reporting with program/initiative teams
and partners as required to ensure quality programming and adherence to
donor requirements and CARE Policies - Ensure
that individual projects/initiatives of the programme are implemented in a
coordinated manner that ensures synergy and coherence within the Program - Working
with the program Leadership Team, coordinate the identification of
potential partners negotiating new partnerships and managing ones to
ensure our partnerships deliver quality programming for the impact group,
act to strengthen the institutions and organizations we partner with, and
provide for ongoing reflection and learning between the partners. - Supervise
and ensure continuous performance management of PMs and advisors
within the program - Make
regular field visits to provide motivation and technical assistance to
staff and partners - Actively
engage the CMPs on potential opportunities, developing concepts against
the program pathways for PAL submissions and other opportunities - Share
regular updates with CARE Ghana team on developments in the wider women’s
empowerment community in Ghana. - Strengthen
the capacity of the program team in monitoring and evaluation - Ensure
the integration of disaster risk reduction strategies in the program
Skills or Experience
QUALIFICATIONS,
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Master’s
Degree in a relevant discipline- rural/social/economic development or
agriculture with the understanding in the others - At
least 10 years experience in a development organizations or institutions
active in promoting women’ empowerment and gender quality, including
experience conducting research in the field or delivering practical
women’s empowerment programming in communities on some CARE Ghana’s key
thematic area of Agriculture, nutrition, natural resources, economic
development, education, water and sanitation - Five
years practical program coordination and management experience, including
financial management - Highly
developed communication skill, both verbal and written, including
listening skills and the ability to build trust and credibility both in
the village and at the policy table - Excellent
written and oral communication skills in English, and ability to adapt
styles to meet the needs of different audience - Advance
skills in computers (Windows, word processing, Excel ) - Strategic
and conceptual thinking ability, decision making and political acumen
