Position: Customer Support Staff, Outdoor Resource Centre

The main aim of the Outdoor Resource Centre is to enhance access to
outdoor recreation and environmental care activities. By providing
local Calgarians and visitors to the area with information and
resources, and through educational courses, workshops, presentations,
and trainings.
As a Customer Support Staff, you will be helping build this new Centre
in a stunning location in Calgary, next to the Bow River Pathway,
Kensington, and downtown. The Outdoor Resource Centre is located on
the main floor of the ‘Old Kensington Fire Hall’. The building is a
historic brick building an
d is surrounded by the newly constructed,
award winning Poppy Plaza Memorial Park on the banks of the Bow River.
We think we have the best offices in Calgary, with fantastic bike to
work, and public transit options.
This is a new venture for CAOC and will have teething problems. You
should be able to be confident about providing constructive feedback,
are able to think broadly and keep lofty goals in mind, are ambitious,
and are not be afraid of a challenge.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
• Develop knowledge of local and regional attractions, events,
businesses, services and products
• Welcome visitors in a warm, friendly, professional manner
(well-dressed and groomed)
• Distribute print materials, answer questions, and share information
on CAOC clubs and organizations as they relate to guest inquiries
• Encourage visitors to experience aspects of our region
• Set-up information displays and brochure racks in an organized, neat
and accessible manner
• Write information articles, develop posters, and brochures
• Organize a variety of educational events – this may be workshops,
speaker series, presentations, courses, etc. and manage registration
to these events
• Communicate with CAOC member organizations and solicit new
opportunities for the Centre
• Be a steward of the building and surrounding area
• Work on other assigned tasks, and special projects as needed
• Light cleaning, opening/closing, and cash handling duties
QUALITIES and EXPERIENCE:
• Enthusiasm and interest in promoting self-propelled outdoor
recreation and environmental care opportunities and information
• Excellent communication skills
• Cheerful and helpful attitude
• Knowledgeable about outdoor recreation and environmental care
opportunities within Calgary and Southern Alberta
• Able to work well independently and as part of a team
• Experience serving people from a variety of backgrounds with diverse needs
• Personal outdoor experience in Southern Alberta and the Rockies
• Second language is an asset
• Computer ability
• Some cash handling experience
HOURS
We are looking to fill a full-time person for approximately 4 months
from July – October. Part time, split shift options will also be
considered. Shifts will include weekend hours.
RATE OF PAY
$14-16/hour
