A close associate of President Muhammadu Buhari and Minister of the Second Republic, Ismaila Isa-Funtua, has died.
Mr Isa-Funtua died on Monday night while attending a doctor’s appointment, according to family sources.
He is believed to have died of cardiac arrest because he was not considered to be critically ill.
The Katsina-born newspaper publisher and industrialist was a minister under the civil administration of Shehu Shagari.
A relative of the deceased octogenarian, Mohammed Isa, confirmed the news of his passing.
He said that Mr. Isa-Funtua would be buried in Abuja on Tuesday.
The president’s spokesman, Garba Shehu, also confirmed his death.
Mr. Shehu said that Mr. Isa-Funtua was coming back from the mosque where he went to pray when he unexpectedly fell ill and decided to go and see a doctor.
