components that will feed into the components AYISE will be implementing to
realise the objectives of the project
The project will
stimulate a robust and sustainable commercial market for household water
treatment and safe storage products on one hand and solid waste management on
the other in Blantyre through demand creation, business and supply chain
development and encouraging govt participation, The project is being
implemented in partnership with Pump Aid, AYISE and WASTE, AYISE is seeking
qualified individuals to fill the following positions

Project Officer – AYISE –

To be responsible for the
overall guidance and implementation of the pump Aid/Comic Relief funded Urban
WASH programme, to coordinate the activities of project assistants, and ensure
the successful delivery of project outcomes and goals in the project’s areas

Lead in the
implementation of project activities by providing technical support to the
project, project staff and entrepreneurs in specific issues relating to this
project, Responsible for developing specific action plans, activities and
budgets for beneficiaries of the project with reference to the original project
document, Conduct partner mapping and/or validation profiling their technical capabilities
to implement in the project, Developing specific activities, monitoring plan of
project to guide the execution of activities in line with the desired project
outputs and outcomes, developing activity and technical Progress Reports (TPRs)
for submission both to AYISE Executive Director or to Pump Aid (as may be
requested), Development of action plans for approval by the Executive Director
and Pump AID, Identify best practices arising out of the project implementation
and document them to inform learning and improved programming, Support project
assistants in identifying capacity needs for entrepreneurs and project
beneficiaries and address the capacity gaps accordingly, Responsible for
brokering project level partnerships particularly Sanitation Service Level
Agreements with the Blantyre city Council and with other players in the WASH
and value chain sector that leverage technical capacity, Thereafter, initiative
mutual contractual agreements and manage the resultant partnership objectively,
Identify advocacy opportunities and engage with the Executive Director of AYISE
and the Pump Aid Project Manager for this project, With the support from the
Executive Director, and the Project manager, identify, orient and support the
sanitation entrepreneurs by providing backstopping support in areas of
sanitation as a business, Promote the business model for dealing with solid
waste management challenges household and community level as defined by the
project document, Project Manager to develop tailored advocacy products at
district level or escalate to those that need national intervention, Provide
coaching and mentoring of Technical Staff in the project including reviewing
their annual Performance Agreements and Annual Appraisals in collaboration with
the project manager

The following knowledge,
skills and abilities may be acquired through a combination of formal schooling,
self-education, and prior experience or on-job training

Bachelors Degree in
Environmental Health or Development Studies or any other related field,
Additional studies in Business and entrepreneurship added advantage, at least 3
yrs experience in implementing WASH projects and facilitating community
development in urban settings, Good understanding of transformational
development focused interventions, Knowledge of and experience in direct field
level implementation, supervision and capacity building, Firm grasp of
information management, Monitoring and evaluation skills, Proficient computer
skills, Self-starter and be able to work with minimal supervision, Team player
and ability to manage multiple stakeholders, Good interpersonal and
facilitation skills, Good writing including Technical Progress Report writing
and speaking skills in English

The Project Officer is
expected to spend 40% of his/her time in the office, spending 60% of his/her
time implementing on the ground and
working along and supporting field staff and volunteers, The job holder may
sometimes be expected to work beyond normal work hours due to the nature of the
job including at least weekend (Saturday)
