As Australia’s national statistical agency, the
Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) produces official statistics that inform
importa

nt decisions made by government, business and the community.

The ABS is looking to engage an extraordinary
senior executive who will lead our Statistical Services Group through an
historic transformational effort to ensure that the ABS continues to meet
contemporary information needs in an increasingly digital age.
This is an exciting time to join the ABS. Work
is well underway for the 2016 Population Census and the Australian Government
has approved an investment of $250 million to refresh systems and processes
over the next 5 years. In addition to this modernisation venture, the ABS
leadership is strongly committed to an extensive program of cultural and
organisational change.
The ideal applicant will be an outstanding
manager and leader with a history of building professional partnerships and
strong stakeholder relationships, an understanding of the potential
opportunities and risks in the production of statistics, and a record of
outstanding achievements in a relevant professional field.
This Deputy Statistician will have overall
accountability for the production of ABS’s high quality statistical products
and solutions that empower confident decision making through a rich and dynamic
statistical picture of Australia’s economy and people.
