Associate Director, Research, Policy and Institutional Services Job Vacancy in Canada

Serve the socially responsible investment industry in this new position of Associate Director, Research, Policy and Institutional Services.

The SIO needs a research and public policy professional to manage our diverse research and policy agenda, and to serve our growing institutional membership demands.

Ideal qualifications for the candidate include experience of 2 to 5 years in the following areas: financial industry research; fundraising for research projects; public policy research; management of stakeholder committees; client service delivered by telephone and email; knowledge of the socially responsible investment industry, and fluency in French and English.

This is a new position located in our small, but fast-paced office in Toronto. The Associate Director, Research, Policy and Institutional Services will assume responsibility for SIO’s activities and programs in the following areas:

• Compilation and preparation of the Canadian SRI Review. This will include participation in a new technical committee to be established by the global Social Investment Forums to better coordinate global data gathering on the SRI industry, starting in 2012.
• Development of new research projects related to SRI market potential and public policy. This includes concept development, liaison with consultants, fundraising development, proposal writing and project management.
• Coordination of SIO’s academic partnerships with universities and think tanks. This includes development of research proposals, proposal writing and liaison with research networks.
• Management of SIO’s policy and advocacy activities. This includes staff coordination of SIO’s Policy & Advocacy Committee, preparation of briefs and comments to regulators and legislators, meetings with policymakers and influencers and coordination of membership calls to action.
• Management of SIO’s institutional services. This includes staff coordination of SIO’s mainstream services committee, management of SIO’s pension industry roundtable, management of SIO’s foundations and endowments program, response to institutional member queries by telephone and email, and support to the Executive Director in institutional membership development.
• Support for SIO’s communications activities in research, policy and institutional services. This includes preparation of blogs, social media communications, SIO Policy Alerts and other communications related to research, policy and institutional member issues.

The opening is a permanent full time position. The SIO has a health, dental and drug benefit plan, which will be available to the employee upon successfully completing probation, usually after a period of three months.

The ideal start date for this position is June 16, 2011.

The SIO is Canada’s association for socially responsible investment. We have 34 associate and sustaining members, drawn from asset managers, fund companies, financial institutions and investment consultants. Our membership also includes financial advisors, business consultants, non-profit organizations and institutional investors from across Canada.
