Assistant Commissioning Editor Job Vacancy at Oxford University Press

The Academic and Journals Divisions publish books, journals and digital resources for the research, professional and higher education markets.

The Assistant Commissioning Editor plays a central role in the day-to-day running and development of OUP’s high profile medical books, which is aimed at medical specialists and those in training. The job involves working closely with the Commissioning Editor in daily dealings with doctors and advisers to maintain the high standards associated with the list.

The Assistant Commissioning Editor will have the following responsibilities:
• monitoring the publications programme
• project managing contracted titles through to publication
• steering selected new book and new edition proposals and typescripts through the process of peer review
• conducting market research for new editions
• providing colleagues in production, sales and marketing with the information they need
• preparing typescripts for handover to production
• providing editorial support to the Commissioning Editor
• representing OUP at author meetings

You will be a graduate (or equivalent) with strong experience already within a publishing environment, preferably as a senior level Editorial Assistant. You will also have strong IT skills and a high standard of literacy and numeracy. Excellent communication and organization abilities; and an ability to marry speed and accuracy are essential.
