Abstract
This
research work is based on Assessment of soil erosion and its environmental
impact in Sapele Metropolis, Sapele Local Government Area, Delta State. In
order to have a broader view, four study objectives were drawn for the study
viz, To examine if there are significant level of awareness about soul erosion,
also to examine if there are factor responsible for soil erosion, to identify
if there are environmental and health impact of soil erosion, to find out
possible ways/methods to combat and also reducing the environmental and health
impact of soil erosion in Sapele metropolis. The descriptive survey method was
employed for the research study. The stratified and simple random sampling
technique were used for a simple size of 200 respondents from a population of
2000 persons. Data was collected through face to face administration of self
designed structures questionnaire and oral interview and data collected would
be analyzed using chi-square (x2) statistical method. The result of
the study showed that soil erosion exist in Sapele metropolis and there are
possible measures of reducing of soil erosion in Sapele metropolis. Therefore,
the government should construct functional drainage system that will help water
run-off in all block drainages.
