Description
The
DC Elementary School Program Teacher is responsible for providing homework
support and planning and facilitating daily enrichment lessonsfocused on
helping youth grow in AALEAD’s three outcome areas: EducationalEmpowerment,
Identity, and Leadership. The program primarily serves low-income Asian
Pacific American youth in elementary school between the ages of 5-13 and runs
Monday through Friday from 3:00pm – 6:00pm at Thomson Elementary School and
Bancroft Elementary School.The DC Elementary School Program Teacher reports
to the DC Elementary School Site Coordinator and DC Elementary School Program
Coordinator.

and Responsibilities

- Manage
classroom behavior - Plan,
implement, and document daily enrichment lessons and facilitate
projectbased learning focused on helping youth attain educational
empowerment,strengthen their identities, and build leadership skills - Document
lesson plans and projects - Provide
daily assistance with vocabulary and grammar; correct youth pronunciation,
spelling, and syntax - Develop
relationships with parents and families - Track
attendance and assist with other program data collection as needed - Meet
monthly with the Afterschool Program team to discuss individual youth’s
progress and recommendations for improvement - Chaperone
field trips (may occur during weekends)
Qualifications
- High
School Diploma required (BA/BS preferred) - Mandarin,
Vietnamese, Cantonese, or Spanish Preferred - Relevant
experience working with youth - Good
organizational skills; strong oral and written communication skills - Ability
to communicate and interact with volunteers, youth, and parents - Sensitivity
to the needs of and ability to work with refugee and immigrant children,
youth, and families - Attentive
to details; ability to work independently and collaboratively
