Abstract
This
project focused on an assessment of the challenges faced by single parents in
the upbringing of their children in Oghara community. To guide this study, four
research questions and their corresponding hypotheses were drawn and
formulated. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study
and a sample size of 120 respondents were selected for the study using the multi-stage
sampling technique. The instrument for data collection were self-questionnaire,
and data collected were analyzed using frequency distribution tables, simple
percentage method and chi-square statistics at alpha 0.05 to test the
hypotheses. The findings of the study revealed that single parents in Oghara
community are faced with several challenging in the upbringing of their
children. Based on this the researcher recommends that the community should set
up a support system to cater for the challenges facing single parents. Single
parents should on their own ensure that they effectively management their
finance and also make effort to raise their family with the available resources
at their disposal.
