The purpose of the scholarship is to allow individuals with limited financial resources, and whom would normally be unable to pay for wilderness guide training and certification, to receive training and certification at no cost, for the purpose of starting a long-term career in the wilderness guiding field.
Limited financial resources, for the purpose of this scholarship, is defined as low income leading to limited educational, travel, and experiential opportunities. High debt loads caused by a high standard of living, oversea studies, or graduate education, would not qualify as limited financial resources. Proof of income may be required.
The scholarship will cover all costs associated with the training, materials, exams, assessments and certifications, and the successful candidate will only be responsible for his/her own clothing and equipment, as well as travel to the site of the field course and assessment (BC or Yukon). Successful candidates will also be required to either demonstrate overnight backcountry experience, or fulfill the required overnight backcountry experience.

The value of the scholarship is approximately $3,500.00
Interested applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. Hold current basic First Aid/CPR certification
2. Be willing to obtain Advanced Wilderness First Aid Certification by December 31, 2011
3. Hold an Active PAWGI Certified Assistant Guide certification
4. Have limited financial resources
5. Have demonstrated an interest and commitment to the environment, conservation, or wilderness preservation
6. Be fluent in the English or French language
7. Be physically and medically fit and able to sustain several hours a day of strenuous activity
