Description:
Job
Description:
This
job is suited to an individual who can work independently and as part of a
team, has a good work ethic, likes people, and loves nature. As you will be on
your own for some periods of time and then nearly over run with a chaotic
schedule of arriving/departing guests you must be very adaptable and calm
minded. You will get some good experience working in a small team to help run a
remote lodge. While the work can be hard and dirty it is still a lot of fun.
You
must be able to deal with tourists while you are preparing meals as it is an
“open” kitchen. Guests will be talking to you and asking questions as
you are trying to prepare meals, so you must be able to handle this extra
“stress”.
You
will be staying at an isolated wilderness lodge with no telephone, cell service,
or internet. So you must be prepared to be out of communication for up to a
week at a time.
Duties:
  1. Greeting
guests upon arrival, and giving them the “tour” of the
    facilities.
  2. Preparing
their rooms prior to arrival. Making the bed, making sure room is clean,
    etc.
  3. Cooking
all meals, using a propane powered stove/oven and also an outside BBQ.
  4. Serving
    meals.
  5. Helping
    to clean all dishes.
  6. Preparing
food shopping lists and driving into town to buy food and supplies.
  7. Helping
to keep lodge clean – once a day sweeping floors, cleaning bathrooms,
    keeping the kitchen clean.
  8. Dealing
with tourists questions about the Lodge, area, wildlife, etc.
  9. When
the Lodge is not busy it is expected that you will use your initiative to
do other jobs that constantly need doing, like painting, stacking
    firewood, trail grooming, etc.
Qualifications:
These
are the ideal qualities we are looking for, but if you can meet most of them we
can provide some “on the job” training for anything you don’t have.
  1. You
must be friendly and “in a good mood” all the time.
  2. Basic
    First Aid & CPR.
  3. You
must be highly adaptable and be able to “think on your feet”.
  4. You
    must be a good cook.
  5. You
must make a commitment to work from mid July until mid October.
  6. You
must have a valid drivers license and having your own vehicle.
  7. Language
skills would be an asset. We get a lot of north eastern Europeans, so
German, Russian, French would be an asset. English is mandatory.
  8. You
must be pet friendly as there is a dog at the Lodge from time to time.
  9. You
must be able to deal with wild animals as we do get bears, raccoons,
wolves, and skunks near the building. So you must know how to react if you
encounter them, and what to do to not attract them to the kitchen while
    cooking.
  10. Safe
    Food Handling certification.
