TITLE : COMMUNICATION OFFICER (KARAMOJA)

Appointment : Contract of two years renewable
JOB PURPOSE
To ensure project development activities are communicated effectively to the beneficiaries, political leadership and the general public; and ensure the progress and achievements of NUSAF2 are properly captured and articulated to key stakeholders and the general public
KEY RESULTS AREAS:
Identify and design key messages
Plan, budget and organize media activities to enhance awareness
Enable the key stakeholders and communities be informed on implementation progress and encourage participation
Make timely reports on communication activities undertaken
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONS1BLITIES
Print Media: prepare messages through gathering, editing, sub-editing, and arrange for printing based on specifications. Ensure all graphic elements like photos, texts, captions, illustrations, cartoons, statistics fit within available space procured. Make sure montage, reproduction, colour separation and print-ready processes are thorough to enhance graphic clarity;
Electronic Media: identify themes and refine them for discussion during talk shows and programs over radio and television. Draft short punchy messages on particular community communication needs in the form of jingles and spots lasting 30-60 seconds on air. Draft themes and concept notes for both video and audio documentaries to capture achievements of implementation. Prepare materials for regular updates of the Project website. Prepare guides on proactive communication strategy for Local Governments;
Community Media: Participate in preparation of themes for traditional media competitions and arrange adjudicators. Arrange media tours of community sub-projects to enhance coverage. Gather media recordings, articles and documentaries for journalists’ award for effective coverage of development in Northern Uganda.
Media Relations: draft press releases, talking points for press discourses, articles and prepare press conferences. Liaise with marketing executives in preparation of newstainers, advertorials, media audit and avail the media with authorized information to journalists and editors;
Corporate paraphernalia: participate in procurement processes of making t-shirts, caps. calendars, year planners, lapel pins, brochures among other corporate items to enhance visibility of the Project;
Training: assist in the training of stakeholders to implement media strategies in Local Government like District Information Officers, correspondents of media houses based in the North. Participate in workshops, seminars and meeting to give technical backstopping on media related challenges;
Job requirement
PERSON SPECIFICATION
The applicant for the position should have the follow-
A bachelor degree in: Mass Communication or Journalism from a reputable university.
A Master degree in: Mass Communication, Journalism, Social Sciences or Arts.
Any other post-graduate qualification in: Rural Development, Social Works, Social Sciences, Development Communication among others as added advantage.
Computer literacy in particular: graphic designs, publication, print reproduction, audio/video recording and reproduction, colour separation, photo montage shall be added advantage.
The applicant should have at least five years experience in: print or electronic media, public relations and development communication in a reputable organizations. Experience working with rural communities especially in Northern Uganda and semi arid areas is added advantage
Knowledge of Ngakarimojong, Luo and Ateso will be added advantage
