PROJECT FOR ENHANCING THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT OF POOR AND VULNERABLE WOMEN THROUGH AGASEKE COOPERATIVES IN THE CITY OF KIGALI

I. BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
Agaseke project was conceived to empower poor and vulnerable women from the City of Kigali and provide them with skills for sustainable livelihoods. The first phase of the project started in 2007 in partnership of Kigali City with Imbuto Foundation (Office of the First Lady), ROB (former RIEPA), and later UNIFEM (now UN Women).
In 2010, the second phase of implementation was launched with the support the One UN in Rwanda.
The project alms at enhancing the socio-economic well-being of 2,000 poor and unskilled women of Agaseke cooperatives In City of Kigali. the project focuses on developing women beneficiaries´ skills in weaving for quality production. life skills (HIV prevention, SGBV and human rights) and Income Generating Activities (IGAs) (like mushroom growing, sericulture making, rabbit grazing and kitchen gardens). Equally important. the Project contributes to developing I BANGA Cooperative Union´s organizational, managerial, and marketing skills as well as the primary cooperatives sales capacities.
In a hid to strengthen the monitoring and evaluation of the project, the City of Kigali in partnership with ONE UN in Rwanda Is recruiting a local consultant to collect information on indicators for which no baseline data were available at the beginning of the project.
2. OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
lb prepare baseline situation of women weavers in the City of Kigali with respect to their demographic backgrounds, quality production, Income from weaving activities, including experience of gender based violence and access to reproductive health services.
3. RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
The Consultant Is expected to perform the following tasks:
Desk review (review of existing data on the project)
Design a clear study methodology that will include sampling, data collection tools and reporting.
Train the data collection team on the tools developed together with the Agaseke project team (prior to data collection phase). Collect data from the field (assess what the situation was at the beginning of the Project a posteriori – starting front 2010) Perform data entry and data analysis
Produce a report on the findings
4. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Masters or University degree. in Public Health, sociology, or any other relevant social science;
• Minimum 5 years of professional experience (Masters holder) and between 6-10 years for Bachelor´s degree holders in areas related to research and data collection and data analysis for baseline purposes ;
• Excellent writing and communications skills;
• Fully conversant with usage statistical packages (SPSS or Stata);
• Full proficiency In spoken and written English
• Knowledge of Kinyarwanda is mandatory.
5. DERIVERABLES:
The following deliverables are expected from the consultant:
• An Inception report I week after signing of the contract.
• Draft Report of the survey Including data on each of the Indicators in the project logical framework and present this to the management committee for comments.
• Final report 3 days after receiving comments from the management committee.
• Data set In SPSS or Slats
6. DURATION:
The duration of the consultancy is 25 working days. starting (runt the date of signature of the contract.
