The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) is a private, non-denominational, development agency promoting creative and effective solutions to problems that impede social and economic development. AKF (East Africa) has initiated an education development programme – the Strengthening Education Systems in East Africa (SESEA) – in southern Tanzania. The
Programme’s overall goal is to improve the learning outcomes for girls and boys in pre-primary and primary school levels in the Mtwara and Lindi Regions by creating and strengthening permanent institutional capacity for the professional development of teachers and education sector managers.
The Foundation invites applications from suitable candidates to fill the following vacancy based in its office in Mtwara Region.
Programme Manager
Reporting to the Country Manager, the Programme Manager will be based in Mtwara and will lead the SESEA team to deliver a high quality education programme. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing systems to ensure successful programmatic implementation and timely reporting as required.
Qualifications/Experience:
• A post-graduate degree, preferably in education or social development, with practical experience in programme management, integrated development programmes, and civil society sectors;
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience, with at least 3 years of direct experience in a development context within programme management;
• Extensive knowledge of the Tanzanian education sector;
• Familiarity with grant management, including preparation and monitoring of budgets;
• Demonstrated capacity to write results-based and donor reports;
• Knowledge of the government administration and the legal, fiscal and policy context in Tanzania an advantage
• Strong interpersonal skills and experience in leadership positions;
• Excellent written and verbal English and Kiswhili language skills.
