The African
Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO) (hereinafter referred to as
“the Organization”), an intergovernmental Organization, which was established
at Lusaka, Zambia, in 1976 by an Agreement concluded under the auspices of the
United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the World Intellectual
Property Organization (WIPO).

grants and administers Intellectual Property titles on behalf of the member
states and provides Intellectual Property information to its clientele in the
form of search services, publications and awareness creation. Membership of the
organisation is open to all states members of the African Union (AU) or of the
United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).

of the Organization.

Principal

Under the
supervision of the Director General, the incumbent Systems Administrator shall
have the following tasks;

- Maintaining the implemented Web Site
and LAN at ARIPO, including the office automation configuration
management to the required needs of the users. - Supervise the external facilities
management providing IT services to ARIPO, including the servicing and
maintenance of contracts. - Implementation of the required
changes of the ARIPO management information system. - Designing and developing
self-sustaining system in the Industrial Property Sector. - Advising on the day-to-day running
of IT related matters. - Installations of software, upgrades,
including operating systems and provide user support services and effect
amendments to applications in accordance with use requirements. - Provide guidelines for an overall IT
security policy for ARIPO, including the designing and the implementation
procedures for system, data, file and equipment security. - Management and control of both
hardware and software. - Assisting in identifying needs,
organizing and providing training in the use of computer equipment,
operating systems and software application, including trouble-shooting
software problems. - Any other duties assigned by the
Director General.
Qualifications

- A Bachelor’s degree in Information
Technology or Computer Science and a minimum of five (5) years post
qualification experience in the application of IT; or - A Master’s degree in Information
Technology or Computer Science and a minimum of three (3) years post
qualification experience in the application of IT - A minimum of 3 years at a strategic
level i.e. ICT strategy development, project planning and management,
business process management systems and contract administration. - Good interpersonal, presentation and
negotiating skills and ability to maintain effective partnerships and
working relations in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with
sensitivity and respect for diversity. - Knowledge of Intellectual Property
would be an added advantage - Ability to work under minimum
supervision. - Ability to work as a member of a
team - Good analytical skills.

Depending on the rise and fall, in value, of the United States dollar, a post adjustment
index which is presently 52.4% of base salary is applied as a cost of living
