SUMMARY:
SUMMARY:
The
incumbent will work under the direction of the Executive Director to help to
validate our ecological sanitation system. The incumbent will develop
waste-to-value treatment processes to integrate with our toilets and conduct
research and field-testing into waste volatilization, urine evaporation,
anaerobic and aerobic digestion, biogas generation, and composting. The end
goal is to integrate our current system into a systems approach to give total
sanitation results.

JOB
RESPONSIBILITIES:
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Designing
and implementing a biological waste-to-value treatment process; - Integrating
the biological treatment process with the Aerosan toilet; - Assisting
in the design and planning of field testing protocol to create clearly
defined test objectives; - Conducting
field testing independently; - Troubleshoot
and respond to problems encountered during field trials; - Providing
reporting and documentation for Executive Director; - Supporting
the writing, proof-reading, formatting and preparation of standard
operating procedures; - Assisting
in the development of a small-scale anaerobic digester for human excreta; - Assisting
in the analysis of biogas composition.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- University
degree in environmental, engineering, chemistry, or biology related field
or equivalent work experience; - Experience
working in wastewater treatment, composting and/or waste management; - The
ideal candidate has excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills and is
able to resolve problems independently; - Experience
conducting research and setting up field trials
ASSETS:
- International
development and/or international field work experience; - Knowledge
of dry toilet systems and/or ecological sanitation; - Motivated
self-starter and team player; - Professional
conduct (i.e. ability to adhere to an organization’s code of conduct and
interact with colleagues and clients in a respectful manner); - Strong
time management, prioritization and organizational skills; - Experience
working both independently and as a team member;
