Program Overview:
AECOM currently manages the USAID-funded Southern Africa Trade and Competitiveness Program, based in Gaborone, Botswana. The program’s overarching goals are to increase international competitiveness, intra-regional trade, and food security in the SADC region. The program delivers targeted technical assistance to the government, private sector, and civil society organizations to realize advantages of greater regional and global trade linkages and export-oriented business development.
Position Overview:
Under the direct responsibility of the Chief of Party, the Deputy Chief of Party is responsible for:
• Providing strategic technical, client and counterpart management support
• Assisting in the coordination of project activities by acting as liaison between the COP and Component Leads
• Ensuring all project related deliverables and work products are submitted in accordance with all contract requirements
Responsibilities:
• Support COP with day-to-day management project issues, and serves as Acting COP when necessary
• Coordinate information for weekly project component team leader meetings and USAID project management update
• Ensures that all STTA consultants’ deliverables and trip reports are submitted on a timely basis
• Provide coordination between SATH program and USAID on all project related information requests
• Assist with coordination of project activities with home office
• Fill-in for the COP when he is absent or represents COP at key planning and policy meetings with USAID and/or counterparts
• Attends meetings with client and keeps COR and USAID abreast of program activities
• Attends project functions and represents project management team; may involve project presentation and speaking role at counterpart events
Qualifications:
• At least 5 years of managing USAID-funded programs abroad or from the US
• Minimum 5 year’s overseas work experience in international development preferably USAID funded programs
• Ability to set priorities in a fluid, complex and demanding environment and to balance differing simultaneous requirements
• Experience managing large teams and possessing ability to motivate staff to deliver to clear targets and work collaboratively
• Experience in building and effectively supervising a diverse team of employees
• Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills, pro-activeness, creative problem-solving and ethical management
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent professional experience in a relevant field, such as trade economics, business administration, international development
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
