for our Project “Zanzibar Built Heritage job creation”,
which aims at develop capacities in order to economically leverage on the
cultural heritage represented by the traditional building techniques in Stone
Town, Unguja (Zanzibar).

Assignment
Period
:
01/03/2016 for one year.

The Restoration
Expert will be responsible for the following functions:

1) To coordinate and
manage the activities under Result 1 according to the donor and ACRA internal
procedures. In particular:

  • Manage
    and monitor all the didactic activities (theoretical lessons and practical
    training on building sites, student assessment and evaluation of their
    progress);
  • Plan
    and manage the logistics of the training courses;
  • Give
    lectures in the framework of the specialization trainings;
  • Select
    restoration sites for the practical trainings;
  • Monitor
    the execution of the works and the compliance with local regulations;
  • Collaborate
    with Karume Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) teachers for the
    elaboration of a new curricula on restoration;
  • Support
    Stone Town Conservation and Development Authority (STCDA) to develop and
    implement its database on restoration activities and to train STCDA staff;
  • Support
    KIST to establish a laboratory for the analysis of restoration building
    materials;
  • Coordinate
    the elaboration of a “Toolkit on restoration”, a pedagogic tool with
    multimedia tutorials;2) Select and coordinate, in collaboration with the
    project manager, the consultants and staff needed to carry out the planned
    activities (local teachers, experts and operators);
    3) Be accountable for her/his work and coordinate regularly with the
    project manager;
    4) Prepare monthly reports and financial plans for the activities under
    her/his responsibility;
    5) Support the project manager in the reporting activities as required by
    the donors;
    6) Contribute to the collection of information to feed the internal
    monitoring system of the project;
    7) Collaborate and contribute to the achievement of the other results of
    the project;
    8) Contribute to identify and develop new projects proposals for the
    cofounding.

Base of job: Stone Town, Zanzibar,
Tanzania.

Requirements:
• University Degree in Architecture or a relevant, directly related discipline,
or equivalent, with specialization in heritage conservation or restoration;
• Proven working experience of at least ten years;
• Proven experience in teaching, organization of training and/or educational
communication;
• Experience of working with international staff and donors’ procurement
procedures;
• Fluent in written and spoken English is essential. Ability to communicate in
Swahili a plus;
• Reporting capacity;
• Effective communication, motivating leadership and interpersonal skills;
• Previous experience in developing countries, especially in Eastern Africa
will be an advantage;
• Knowledge of No-profit sector, strong commitment to teamwork.
