BACKGROUND TO ACID VIOLENCE AND ASTI:
Acid violence is the deliberate use of acid to
attack another human being. 80 per cent of victims are women. Attackers often
target the head and face in order to maim, disfigure and blind. Acid violence
causes severe physical, psychological and social scarring, and victims are
often left with no legal recourse, limited access to medical or psychological
assistance, and without means to support themselves.
Acid Survivors Trust International (ASTI) is a
London-based NGO (no. 1079290) and the only organisation whose sole dedicated
purpose is to work to end acid and burns violence at the international level.
Recognising the need for local knowledge and expertise in order to combat acid
violence effectively, we helped to establish and continue to support six partner
organisations in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Cambodia, Uganda, Nepal and India.
JOB PURPOSE:
To:
  Ensure the
delivery of ASTI’s programmes and projects through effective development and
management;
  secure
high quality outputs aligned with the organisation’s desired outcomes;
  increase
ASTI’s effectiveness through developing relationships and working with, and;
  contribute
overall to the development of ASTI as an organisation.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Implementation & Management
Develop and implement programme systems and
procedures as appropriate. Ensure participatory process of engagement with
local partners in the design of projects Work closely with local partners to
assist in their capacity building as appropriate Ensure clear, realistic and
measurable programme and project objectives and priorities are set, monitoring
progress towards them.
Oversee sub-grants to local partners as appropriate Oversee expenditure of
funds in accordance with deliverables outlined in proposals Oversee and write
narrative and financial reports (with finance manager) to funders and other
stakeholders
Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning
Establish systems to ensure the effective and
on-going monitoring & evaluation Facilitate the sharing of knowledge,
experience and best practice between local partners and other stakeholders
Programme Development
Alongside the Executive Director develop a strategy
for development of programme activities in consultation with key stakeholders
including local NGO partners, international donors and government. In
consultation with the Executive Director represent ASTI to diverse audiences
including the public, media, governments and others as appropriate to increase
engagement and the delivery of the programme of work. Manage relationships with
partner and other relevant organisations in particular those working directly
with or constituting relevant groups to maximise ASTI’s reach. Work in
partnership with other parts of the global movement concerned with acid
violence where possible, and develop these relationships.
