University of Wollongong Chief Operating Officer Job Vacancy in Australia

 Early Start Facility
  • Faculty of Social Sciences (Early Start)
  • Set up role in a greenfield environment
  • State-of-the-art facilities
The University of Wollongong, NSW, with 30,000
students, is ranked in the top 2% of universities world-wide. It is a
research-intensive university with a vision to transform the lives of people,
their communities and the environment.
Early Start, a $44 million world class venture is
one of the University’s most recent enterprises, representing an important and
exciting strategic initiative in higher education. Reflecting the simple
premise that every child deserves the best possible start to life, Early Start
embodies a

multi-disciplinary approach to teaching, research and community
engagement with a focus on the earliest years of life. A new expansive
state-of-the-art building at the Wollongong campus, scheduled for operation in
early 2015, incorporates advanced technologies in a purpose-built structure
with extensive formal and informal learning, teaching and research spaces.
Enhanced technologies also ensure connections with a network of early childhood
education and care services in regional, rural and remote communities of NSW.
The Facility also incorporates Australia’s first Children’s Discovery Centre,
to be named the ‘Early Start Discovery Space’ (ESDS), which will attract over
100,000 visits each year from young children and their families. The Chief
Operating Officer (COO), reporting to the Executive Dean of Social Sciences,
will be responsible for the overall operations of the Early Start Facility. The
COO will oversee management of the Facility, including responsibility for
developing and implementing operational policies and procedures, financial
operations, marketing, staffing, security, maintenance and day-to-day
operations and will participate in the broader planning, development and
implementation of the Early Start initiative.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with
extensive leadership and general management experience in roles spanning
multi-functional responsibilities to be in at the start of an important
initiative. With a high-level understanding of governance and management
practice across a range of areas and experience of managing a substantial
budget, you will have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence
and establish effective working relationships in a complex and diverse
environment, with a results-focused and pro-active style.
A relevant tertiary qualification in a business
discipline or related field and relevant professional experience and training
is essential.
