Victoria University ASEAN Scholarships

Victoria University is offering four ASEAN scholarships for Ph.D. students
from Brunei and Singapore (two awards are made to Brunei and two to Singapore).
Successful applicants should have an outstanding academic track record in a
relevant discipline.

These scholarships
ensure that the New Zealand-ASEAN Scholars programme is comprehensive in its
regional scope.

Victoria University
of Wellington (VUW) established these Ph.D. scholarships in collaboration with
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tra

de (MFAT) to recognise New Zealand’s
strong commitment to active engagement with the ASEAN region.

The applicant will
be expected to have completed a Bachelor’s or Masters degree with academic
distinction equivalent to a First Class Honours degree at a New Zealand
University.

Eligibility:
Victoria
offers four scholarships per year to Ph.D. applicants from Singapore and Brunei
(two awards are made to Brunei and two to Singapore)

  • Successful
    applicants should have an outstanding academic track record in a relevant
    discipline.
  • The
    applicant will be expected to have completed a Bachelor’s or Masters
    degree with academic distinction equivalent to a First Class Honours
    degree at a New Zealand University.
  • Applicants
    are requested to clearly indicate their area of research interest and to
    include a brief summary of their suggested research and methodology with
    their application.
  • The
    following factors will be taken into consideration:
    1. These scholarships will be targeted at younger researchers who have the
    capacity to contribute to the development of their countries and the ASEAN
    region.
    2. Priority will be given to topics that relate to regional integration
    and sustainable development.
  • Students
    whose first language is not English are required to meet the English
    language proficiency requirements for postgraduate study at Victoria
    University. Victoria’s English language requirements are strict and not
    negotiable. If applicants first language is not English, they must provide
    evidence of their English proficiency before they will be accepted as a
    Ph.D. candidate. Requirements are:
    1. TOEFL 575 with (preferably) a TWE of 5, or 237 on the computer-based
    test; or 90 on the internet-based test with a minimum of 20 in writing; or
    2. IELTS overall band of 6.5, no sub-score below 6; or
    3. CAE grade B; or
    4. a minimum of two ratings of 5 and two ratings of 4 in the Victoria
    University English Proficiency Programme test.

Nationality:
Students
from Singapore and Brunei can apply for these scholarships.
