Generation Rwanda (UK) is a volunteer-run organisation. We are dedicated to helping orphans and other socially vulnerable young people in Rwanda pursue a university education and ultimately become leaders in driving economic development and social reconciliation.

Position: Communications & Development Intern
Location: London

Generation Rwanda (UK) seeks a dedicated individual interested in working with our Board of Trustees on communications and fundraising projects on a part-time, volunteer basis. This is an ideal position for someone interested in learning about the NGO world and international development. The minimum time commitment is three months; the weekly commitment would ideally be 2-3 full days per week (this is negotiable depending on skills and interest).

Responsibilities
The Intern will fulfill responsibilities in the following areas:

A.Foundation research
•Assist with fundraising research and grant applications
• Identify all potential U.K. foundations with interests in higher education and/or Africa
• Work on letters of inquiry for all potential foundation supporters in the U.K.

B.Event coordination
• Provide organizational support for fundraising events in London

C.University outreach
• Lead university outreach efforts to identify cultural exchange opportunities between students in Rwanda and in the U.K. (e.g., study abroad programs, scholarships, and research projects)
• Identify university and secondary school students who would be interested in volunteering with Generation Rwanda (UK)
• Work with university and/or secondary school students to help organize fundraising events to benefit Generation Rwanda (UK)

D.Public relations: Help implement Generation Rwanda (UK)’s PR strategy
• Identify and reach out to publications potentially interested in publishing articles about the organisation
• Assist in the preparation of the organisation’s website

Qualifications
• Excellent writing and research skills
• Great organizational skills; strong work ethic and ability to multi-task
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative
• Basic knowledge of the NGO sector
• Experience working with Photoshop and InDesign preferred, but not required
