Laboratory Information System Coordinator
The LIS coordinator will provide support in managing the LIS system for the
NRL, liaising with laboratory authorities to ensure the system is meeting the
laboratory requirements. Additionally, the person will be the point of contact
for the LIS program (both internally and externally), and will lead
the program
on a fulltime basis. This position will be placed within RBC/IHDPC-NRL Division
under the head of Division and directly supervised by Director of Quality
Assurance/Quality Control.
The position will initially be supported by East African Public Health
Laboratory (EAPHLN) project funded by World Bank.
Professional Qualifications
• Education and experience working in a clinical diagnostic
laboratory; degree in medical laboratory technology preferred
• Significant knowledge of laboratory operations, workflow
and data requirements
• Training and experience in laboratory systems operations as
it relates to specimen processing and tracking, testing procedures, test
reporting and connection to laboratory instrumentation to enable two-way
communication with LIS.
• Training and experience in laboratory systems operations as
it relates to security, virus protection, reliable and backup energy supply and
data backup and storage.
• Ability to train laboratory staff.
• Ability to write project management reports and present
information well in public
• Experience in managing projects.
• Interest in working in laboratory environment and
willingness to learn0
Job Responsibilities
• Overall management of the LIS program to assure laboratory
needs are met and LIS operation is reliable and effective
• Provide liaison between laboratory management, the
laboratory technician and the IT staff in relation to the LIS
• Work with laboratory sections to determine specific LIS
needs and advise on use of LIS capabilities and customization changes when
necessary
• Work with laboratory management to use LIS capabilities for
effective and efficient laboratory workflow and for meeting accreditation
standards such as the WHO/AFRO Stepwise Laboratory Improvement Towards
Accreditation (SLIP-TA)
• Evaluate requests for changes to the LIS from the
laboratory and interact with the software vendor to provide the required
approved changes.
• Monitor user proficiency with LIS and assess on-going
training needs; provide training to users; recommend additional training as may
be needed.
• Provide regular reports on LIS operations to NRL division.
