Job Summary
The Economic Development Officer is responsible for
providing support and income generation expertise that will enable economic
self-sufficiency for the WfWI program (participants, graduates, self-help
groups and cooperatives), including training. S/he is also responsible for new
business development and existing business expansion and development of
opportunities in a wide range of economic sectors especially off-farm job
creation sector.

Duties and Responsibilities
-Carry out frequent market assessments to determine
current viable and sustainable businesses for program participants and
graduates
-Provide promising business owners (program participants and graduates) with
information about loan programs, marketing and appropriate locations
-Work with promising/emerging groups on planning, project development and promotion
of groups to expand opportunities
-Build partnerships and establish linkages between program participants’ and
graduates’ businesses and relevant stakeholders
-Set up training schedules for business and vocational tracks
-Provide technical capacity to participants to improve their understanding of
business-related concepts in their work

Skills and Qualifications
-Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Business, Economic
Development, Marketing or a related field
-At least 3 years of relevant experience some of which are within the INGO
sector
-Good communication and presentation skills
-High motivation and initiative
-Good planning and organizational skills
-Good networking skills
-Good report writing and computer skills
-Ability to work with minimum supervision
-Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well as part of a team
-Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda, including reading, writing and oral skills
