INTERNATIONAL JOBS ANNOUNCEMENT
The management of EWSA would like to inform the
public that it is recruiting suitable and qualified international experts for
the Lake Kivu Monitoring Program in the following posts:
1. Position:
Expert in limnology

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Identify and assist EWSA/LKMP in choosing and
    purchasing required monitoring equipment;
  • Train and assist local staff in carrying out
    near plant monitoring;
  • Train and assist local staff in carrying whole
    lake Kivu monitoring
  • Regularly (weekly, monthly and annually)
    elaborate reports of monitoring activities,
  • Organize the local monitoring team and
    reinforce it when it will be necessary
  • Elaborate capacity building program for
    monitoring staff and confer them responsibilities with the goal of making
    them self-reliant;
  • Liaise with the Experts Advisory Group and
    annually report to them the results of monitoring measurements for further
    advice
  • Support and encourage cooperation with
    stakeholders (Investors, riparian countries, research institutions, local
    regulation authorities, ….) by participating in the organization of
    workshops and meetings that put them together.
  • Carry out any other activities that will be
    deemed appropriate and necessary by LKMP/EWSA
Required qualification and experience
  • Hold a PhD or relevant academic qualifications
    in lakes limnology or in other related fields (required).
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in carrying
    out analytical measurement on lakes (experience on lake Kivu will be an
    advantage);
  • Extensive knowledge of the physics and/or
    chemistry of Lakes, with high gaseous concentrations (experience on Lake
    Kivu would be an added advantage).
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with the
    interaction of physical and geochemical processes in stratified natural waters(experience
    on Lake Kivu would be an added advantage);
  • Proven relevant experience in preparing Terms
    of Reference and Technical specifications of scientific equipment;

    monitoring equipment (required)
  • Proven ability to work in a multicultural
    setting and to contribute to a good team spirit; (required)
  • Proven ability of training local staff
    (required)
  • Proven proficiency in French and / or
    English;(required)
2. Position:
Expert in Inspecting methane extraction
 Responsibilities and Duties
  • Collect and read the necessary documentations
    with the aim of having a full understanding of the special system of Lake
    Kivu, and of the methane gas extraction technologies & principles.
  • Check the compliance of the extraction
    facilities with MPs;
  • Carry out HAZOP on the extraction system and
    the piping;
  • Review designs and the technical
    documentations of the extraction system of methane gas extraction
    facilities;
  • Check appropriateness oldie offshore
    structural design and evaluate the seaworthiness of equipment;
  • Check all necessary mechanical drawings
    arrangements of the platform and stability;
  • Give recommendation’s on necessary changes to
    be carried out on extraction facilities and check the implementation of
    the required changes;
  • Train local staff to review future designs;
  • Control the seaworthiness of the underwater
    equipment, especially the welding,
  • Check all necessary mechanical drawings
    arrangements of the platforms and stability
  • Elaborate on-plant monitoring protocol, define
    needed equipment for on plant inspections and assist in their procurement
    (elaborate Technical Specifications and advice in the choice of provider)
  • Train and assist local staff in carrying out
    on-plant inspections/audit on operating plants
  • Train and assist local staff in interpretation
    of data and in elaborating on plant monitoring reports
Required qualification and experience
  • The ideal Expert profiles include a Ph.D.
    holding with recent peer reviewed publications.
  • Relevant academic qualifications in chemical
    engineering, mechanical engineering, fluid dynamics or in other related
    fields
  • A minimum of 5 years proven experience in
    reviewing the safety designs of off-shore gas/oil extracting platforms
    including HAZOP process;
  • Extensive knowledge of the physics and/or
    chemistry of fluids, including solution process of CH4 and CO2 from water
    would be an added value;
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in working
    in aquatic environments, especially on off-shore platforms would be an
    added asset;
  • Communication,
    negotiation     and reporting skills are required;
  • Facility to work in a multicultural context,
    experience with Africa is an advantage
  • Proven training skills;
  • Good knowledge of English (knowledge of French
    is a plus).
  • Ability to lead and effectively operate
    stakeholders’ interactions;
  • Facility to share values, beliefs and
    commitment to the project vision and demonstrate expected behaviours,
    competencies and performance associated with his/her prospective roles.
