international NGO that has partnered with the Government of Rwanda to
strengthen the health system and support poverty reduction initiatives in rural
Rwanda since 2005. Today we serve a catchment area of 800,000 through 37 health
centers and three hospitals with our sister organization, Inshuti Mu Buzima
(IMB). Taking the lessons learned and expertise honed in Haiti, our efforts in
Rwanda have achieved rapid success, gaining the attention of both the highest
levels of the Government of Rwanda and the international community. Through
partnership with the Ministry of Health in our efforts, we have already helped
to strengthen the public health system in the areas we serve and are helping
the government develop plans to replicate elements of our model throughout the
country.

Position Overview:
This individual is a qualified general surgeon and
responsible for providing high-level surgical care for the Butaro District
Hospital and Cancer Center. This individual will be the responsible of the
surgical activities at Butaro Hospital. S/he will be responsible for the
provision of surgical clinical services, and will direct the surgical quality
improvement program. S/he will also be responsible to liaise with the Oncology
program to effectively provide surgical oncology care. The individual will be
directly involved in teaching activities for general surgery and oncology
related surgeries at Butaro Hospital.

Qualifications:
- Qualified Surgeon. This includes 1) successful
completion of a post-graduate general surgery training program, and 2)
qualification (example: MMed in surgery from accredited university,
Faculty of COSECSA, etc.) - Comfort in managing a broad range of surgical
disease in the district hospital setting - Interest in surgical oncology in addition to
general surgical conditions - Excellent oral communication skills and
email-based communication skills - Ability to effectively teach and mentor
- Ability to effectively communicate (speaking and
writing) in English, Kinyarwanda and French - Ability to work with multi-disciplinary groups
