become a reputable key partner and focal point on girls’ education in Rwanda.
FAWE’s mission is to support girls’ and women acquire education for
development. FAWE supports implementation of Ministry of Education priorities.
The October 2014 Rwanda Joint Review
Education of the Education Sector identified water and sanitation in schools as
a priority for the sector. Adequate water and sanitation as part of a healthy
school environment significantly improve a child’s prospects to develop and
thrive. The promotion of good hygiene behavior at school can initiate behavior
changes that last a lifetime.

FAWE Rwanda Chapter and the United
Nations Children’s Fund-UNICEF are collaborating on a partnership aimed at
enhancing gender-based school interventions in Child Friendly Schools with
three major pillars that address issues of poor reading culture among young
students, limited knowledge of healthy living and HIV/AIDS prevention among
young people and maintenance and usage of water and sanitation facilities in
ten schools located in ten districts around the country.
Nations Children’s Fund-UNICEF are collaborating on a partnership aimed at
enhancing gender-based school interventions in Child Friendly Schools with

young people and maintenance and usage of water and sanitation facilities in
ten schools located in ten districts around the country.
To support the improvement of Water and
Sanitation Health-WASH practices, FAWE would like to recruit a WASH Community
Mobilizer to closely work with the Community Facilitators in the ten
schools.

The WASH Community Mobiliser will be
primarily responsible for ensuring that strategies to increase the use of
improved sanitation facilities and improved hygiene behaviors are effectively
adapted to Rwandan school settings. She/he will work with schools to
develop gender sensitive WASH plans that support increased access to safe
water. The WASH Community Mobiliser will collaborate with school-based Community
Facilitators to develop detailed implementation and monitoring plans to ensure
accountability and make improvements in children’s lives. The WASH Community
Mobilizer will support Community Facilitators to conduct school-based health
and hygiene campaigns to change attitudes and behaviors of people within these
schools.

Major duties / Responsibilities
The WASH Community Mobiliser will be
responsible for:

- Provision
of technical guidance to intervention schools on effective and efficient
ways to access, maintain and use safe water. - Promotion
and enhancement of sanitation activities in intervention schools including
proper waste management, effective latrine usage and hand washing and
effective cleaning of latrines. - Timely
and quality implementation of all WASH related activities in line with
established work plans and available budgets. - Work
with the project coordinator to develop, produce and disseminate
high quality information and materials on WASH activities in the schools - Provision
of regular advice to schools on school health and hygiene to intervention
schools. - Support
Community Facilitators’ work with head teachers, School general Assembly
in enhancement of health and hygiene practices in schools. - Actively
contribute in the organization of trainings and capacity building
activities for community facilitators and club teachers. - Supervision
and monitoring of all WASH related activities at the school level
including construction and maintenance of latrines in the schools. - Develop
and manage relationships with the District officers in charge of health
and water and sanitation. - External
representation: Act as FAWE’s focal person for WASH related activities as
necessary. - As
required, engage and report to UNICEF on programme progress.
Qualifications:
- Possess
a bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Sciences, Sociology, Social
work or another related field - 2
years field working experience in WASH programming and implementation with
related professional trainings in water supply, sanitation & hygiene
and environment management; - Up-to-date
knowledge and experience in behaviour change communication related to WASH
and demonstrated knowledge and background in community mobilization and
engagement; - Experience
of training design, delivery and facilitation - Strong
oral and written skills in Kinyarwanda and English - Proven
report writing skills - Familiarity
with Rwandan school contexts. - NGO
working experience is preferable.
