- Brain
Tumor Policy Development: Developing NBTS’ annual public
policy agenda, including its legislative agenda and priorities, as well as
NBTS’ positions on various policy matters. - Advocacy:
Managing, developing and maintaining a nationwide advocacy volunteer
structure. - Representation:
Serving as the main NBTS representative on Capitol Hill, as well as to
coalitions and other organizations. - Policy
and Advocacy Events: Advancing our research and public
policy agenda through convening meetings and events, including our
signature advocacy event called Head to the Hill.
Primary
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
- Plan
and carry out activities to recruit, train, retain, and recognize
volunteer advocates.
- Work
collaboratively with Advancement, including Marketing/Communications, and
Research Departments to achieve organizational goals. - Prepare
and execute Head to the Hill annual advocacy event and other activities. - Collect
and prepare patient and caregiver stories for use in public policy
contexts. - Create
volunteer-based advocacy actions via electronic or in-person means to
sustain relationships. (Writing/sending action alerts,
designing/coordinating volunteer advocacy teleconferences and webinars) - Maintain
active relationships with members of Congress and their staffs on
legislative priorities. - Develop
supporting materials and documentation for policy positions. - Participate
in relevant public policy coalitions. - Implements
grassroots advocacy strategy. - Develop
content for electronic updates on public policy matters for constituents. - Provide
regular updates to volunteers and mobilize them on policy issues on a
regular basis. - Travel
on occasion throughout the U.S. - Keeping
abreast of public policy changes and how these changes may impact advocacy
and NTBS. - Serve
as a member of senior leadership team
Education
& Experience:Bachelor’s
Degree, (Preferred:Master’s degree, JD, Ph.D or equivalent), with a minimum of
seven years professional experience working with and organizing volunteers,
patients/caregivers. Preferred experiences may include: advocating and/or
conducting public policy research, on-line advocacy.

leadership in the public policy arena. - Skilled
at planning and executing specific projects that are part of a larger
strategy. - Experience
and interest in public policy, health care, politics, and the democratic
process. - Interest
in building a powerful advocacy force for the brain tumor community. - Strong
oral and written communication skills including ability to communicate
clearly and concisely in writing and in person. - Comfortable
presenting and facilitating in person, via teleconference or webinar. - Logistical
experience in creating events and opportunities for volunteers. - Commitment
to improving the lives of people with brain tumors. - A
team player who wants to make a difference in the fight against brain
tumors and cancer in general.
