Aegis Trust is a British NGO,
founded
in 2000, which campaigns to prevent genocide worldwide and it has been
working in Rwanda
since 2004.Aegis Trust manages the Kigali Genocide Memorial on the behalf of
the Government of Rwanda and is implementing a program called Education for
Sustainable Peace in Rwanda (ESPR).
Detailed Job Description
Job Title: Research and Policy Officer
Reports to: RPHE Research and Policy Manager
Position Type: Full time
Location: Kigali/Rwanda
Responsibilities and
duties
1. Coordinate and
administrate the process of commissioning research papers and policy briefs
- Identify and annually re-adjust of research themes for
the Call for Research proposals - Formulate the call for research proposals in cooperation
with the RPHE Director and Manager - Design and annually re-adjust the selection process
where necessary (criteria, team diversity, timeline etc) - Coordinate/administrate the commissioned research
selection process for advisors and ensure all the correspondence with
including for the collection of their advice on appropriate journals to
propose the papers to - Actively participate and assist in the advisory process
for selected authors - Conduct research on a topic in post-genocide
reconstruction, if interested and if there is time
2.
Curate and continually update Genocide Research Hub
- Identify relevant research materials to be continually
uploaded to the Genocide Research Hub - Curate the Genocide Research Hub, moderating and
quality-assessing (with the RPHE Director and Manager) research materials
that are submitted by its members. - Ensure that relevant calls for proposals, events, Aegis
research papers and Aegis policy briefs are uploaded to the Genocide
Research Hub as appropriate - Write regular email bulletins to the membership of the
Genocide Research Hub - Work with the Aegis team to continually publicise the
Genocide Research Hub and grow its membership - Write blog posts for the Genocide Research Hub reviewing
or comparing relevant research, with profiles of researchers or
policy-makers, or reviewing events attended, if there is time
3. Coordinate
and administrate the publication and dissemination of the RPHE research
papers and policy briefs
- Work with the RPHE Director to identify relevant
academic journals to propose to authors for the publication of their
papers - Work with the RPHE Director and RPHE Manager to identify
and communicate with appropriate audience to receive online and printed
papers - Work with the RPHE Director and RPHE Manager to run
research for policy seminars and other dissemination events for
appropriate Rwandan policymakers and researchers
4. Implement a
Monitoring and Evaluation system for the program
- Apply existing M&E tools for all the program’s
activities (Research papers commission process, Genocide Research Hub,
Research for Policy seminars and other activities) - M&E data analysis and production of M&E reports
- Coordinate the incorporation of lessons learnt from the
M&E results into the program’s activities
Job Requirements and
qualifications
- A quality Masters’ degree in the Social Sciences
(Development studies, Conflict management, Economics, Education, - Bachelor +2 to 3 years of experience in a similar
position - Strong interest in peace building and post-genocide
reconstruction - Strong interest in the connection between research and
policy
Work Experience and
Skills
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Excellent written and spoken French
- Demonstrated ability to work at speed and hit deadlines
- Excellent and conscientious team worker
- Able to conduct simple qualitative and quantitative
analysis for the purpose of M&E - Meticulous attention to detail
- Administration and coordination experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
- Creative writing and flexibility
- Succession plan and capacity building
- Exposure to international networks
