These selection criteria will be renewed each year and re-advertised as
Expression of Interest, and can vary or be adapted according to funds
availability and program structure.
SELECTION OF PUBLISHERS
TO SUPPORT AND/OR PARTNER AS PART OF OUR PROGRAMS
We will offer a range of capacity
building and development opp
ortunities including providing technical support on
the development of Kinyarwanda children’s books appropriate for the ages 0-9
years. We would particularly like to expand the range of books for young
children, including:
- Concept books, including age-appropriate topics such as
shapes, colors, opposites, counting and word books - Traditional folktales books
- Alphabet books
- Simple pictures books
- Books based on well-known Kinyarwanda songs or
rhyme - Collections of poems
- Other types of children’s books
Opportunity for
publishers
Established Rwandan children’s
publishers who produced Kinyarwanda children’s books for the 0-9 are invited to
participate in our children’s book development program. We will use the
following requirements for selection:
The applicants must:
- Be a Rwandan publisher with the business indigenous to
Rwanda (born and has the parent company created and registered in Rwanda);
this means the publishing house is not a multi-national founded in other
country than Rwanda or is not affiliated, representing, or sub-contracted
by any publishing house founded in other country than Rwanda. - Demonstrate evidence of publishing Kinyarwanda
children’s books for the 0-9 - Demonstrate evidence of work, collaboration or
partnership with any institution of the government of Rwanda (REB,
MINISPOC, RALC, etc. ) civil society, and other relevant institutions - Work mainly with Rwandan writers and Rwandan
illustrators - Be willing to continuously receive feedback to edit and
improve new title development - Regularly participate in events promoting the local
publishing industry such as Book Purchasing Consortium, Children’s Book
Forum, and Abana Writers’ Café - Agree to avail books to local booksellers stocking
children’s titles - Agree to a corporate social responsibility commitment
that support the advancement of a reading culture in Rwanda by organizing
events or providing resources/financing to a minimum of three literacy
promotion initiatives per calendar year, (initiative to be selected and
determined by the respective publisher)
SELECTION OF BOOKSELLERS
TO SUPPORT AND/OR PARTNER AS PART OF OUR PROGRAMS
According to fund requirements
and program activities, we offer a range of capacity building and development
opportunities including providing technical support on the distribution and
book promotion and marketing opportunities of Rwandan-made children’s books in
written in Kinyarwanda and for the ages 0-9. We would particularly like to
expand the range of books for young children, including:
- Concept books, including age-appropriate topics such as
shapes, colors, opposites, counting and word books - Traditional folktales books
- Alphabet books
- Simple pictures books
- Books based on well-known Kinyarwanda songs or
rhyme - Collections of poems
- Other types of children’s books
Events include:
- Book fairs
- Book parties
- Piloting the creation of new book channels outside
Kigali - Book campaigns
- Book launches
Opportunity for
booksellers
Established Rwandan children’s
publishers who produced Kinyarwanda children’s books for the 0-9 are invited to
participate in our children’s book development program. We will use the
following requirements for selection:
The applicants must:
- Be a Rwandan-based bookseller with evidence of
selling Kinyarwanda children’s books for the 0-9 published by
Rwandan indigenous publishers - Evidence of work, collaboration or partnership with any
institution of the government of Rwanda (REB, MINISPOC, RALC…), civil
society, and other relevant institutions - Be willing to continuously receive feedback to provide
better access to children’s books, particularly in rural areas - Be willing to partner in initiatives where the
bookseller doesn’t receive monetary incentives from the organizing
project/organization. - Be willing to collaborate with local publishers to
promote sales of their Kinyarwanda children’s books
