The Biggest and Best Records Broken by NFL Players

The Biggest and Best Records Broken by NFL Players

Just stepping onto the field as an NFL player is a remarkable achievement. Those who get to pull on the uniform have earned the right to call themselves a professional football player, thanks to their dedication, determination, and talent.

Throughout the history of the NFL, many players have gone on to become legends of the game. To create records some never thought possible, and to earn a place in the iconic Pro Football Hall of Fame. But with so many great stories and achievements to choose from, what are the greatest NFL player records?

Most Super Bowl Wins – 7

Tom Brady: New England Patriots (2000–2019), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2020–2022).

The iconic quarterback is inevitably on the list. This is a man who holds the record for the most NFL records, so it would be crazy to leave him out. The hardest decision is deciding which of his many records to choose from.

Tom Brady Super Bowl records:

  • Most Super Bowl wins: 7
  • Most Super Bowl appearances: 10
  • Most Super Bowl MVP awards: 5
  • Most passing yards: 3,039
  • Most passing yards in a single Super Bowl: 505
  • Most touchdown passes: 21
  • Most completions: 277
  • Most touchdown passes: 21
  • Most completions: 277
  • Oldest quarterback to start a Super Bowl: 41 years old

However, 7 Super Bowl wins, surpassing Charles Haley, who held the record since 1996, is a special achievement. The record continues to look impregnable, especially after Patrick Mahomes, and the Chiefs ‘ Super Bowl defeat to the Eagles in 2025. You can check out all the latest Super Bowl odds at DraftKings.

Most Receiving Yards: 22,895

Jerry Rice: San Francisco 49ers (1985–2000), Oakland Raiders (2001–2004), Seattle Seahawks (2004), Denver Broncos (2005)

Jerry Rice is another man who holds so many NFL records that his selection is no surprise. Most receptions (1,549), most seasons with 1,000 receiving yards (14), most total touchdowns (208), and most career Super Bowl touchdown receptions. His achievements have cemented his place in NFL folklore.

However, arguably his greatest record is the most receiving yards (22,895). Larry Fitzgeraldof the Arizona Cardinals is next with 1,432, but no currently active player looks like getting close. This is a record that looks almost impossible to beat.

Most Consecutive NFL Starts (321)

Brett Favre: Atlanta Falcons (1991), Green Bay Packers (1992–2007), New York Jets (2008), Minnesota Vikings (2009–2010)

Super Bowl winner, Favre, is a legend of the game. This is the man who was the first NFL quarterback to reach 70,000 yards, 10,000 passes, 6,000 completions, 500 touchdowns, and victories over all 32 teams.

Incredibly, Favre also holds the record for most career interceptions (336), but it’s his 321 consecutive starts from 1992 to 2010, including 297 regular-season games, that earn him a place on the list.

It is an outstanding achievement and testament to his professionalism, talent, and physicality. Quarterbacks are only ever a tackle away from season-ending injuries, so his achievement is all the more impressive. However, special mention must go to punter Jeff Feagles, who played in 352 consecutive games, the longest for a special teams player.

Most Consecutive Games with Touchdown Passes (54)

Drew Brees: San Diego Chargers (2001–2005), New Orleans Saints (2006–2020)

The Super Bowl winner holds some impressive NGFL records, including best pass completion percentage in a single season (74.4% in 2018), and the most 5,000-yard seasons (5). He’s also tied with the most passing touchdowns in a single game (7).

However, between October 18, 2009, and November 29, 2012, the New Orleans Saints quarterback through a touchdown pass for 54 consecutive games. The previous record of 47 was held by Johnny Unitas, who had held the record for nearly 52 years.

The legends that are Tom Brady (52), and Payton Manning (51) came close, but still couldn’t beat it. And if that isn’t enough, Brees also stands at number 5 on the all-time list, having gone 45 consecutive games between December 9, 2012, and November 15, 2015.

All-time NFL Interception Record (81)

Paul Krause: Washington Redskins (1964–1967), Minnesota Vikings (1968–1979)

Safety, Paul Krause, set the record in 1979 while playing for the Minnesota Vikings against the Los Angeles Rams. His 81st interception came in the second quarter of a 27–21 overtime loss.

The previous record was held by another former Hawkeye player, Emlen Tunnell, who managed 79. In total, Krause’s 81 interceptions were returned for 1,185 yards and three touchdowns.

NFL records that could go this season

While many records seem unbreakable, there are still plenty that could be broken this season. Both Drake Maye and Jared Goff could beat the single-season completion percentage record set by Drew Brees (74.4%) back in 2018.

Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes is on course for the most touchdowns in a quarterback’s first nine seasons, as he closes in on Peyton Manning’s record of 275.
