The
Position:
Reporting
to the Managing Director, the job holder will be responsible for effective and
efficient management/co-ordination of the Bank

’s Operations processes relating
to payments, procurement, facilities, security, reconciliation and cash
functions so as to deliver efficient, cost effective and excellent customer
service while mitigating inherent risks.

The
Head of Operations & Logistics is also responsible for administrating the
bank’s Project Management Framework.
Key
Responsibilities:
  • Define,
    implement and maintain appropriate operations standards and principles
    across the business to maximize synergy, sharing of best practice and
    commercial benefit.
  • Develop,
    implement and maintain a cost effective and appropriate operating model in
    the middle and back office operations functions, including quality
    assurance of the banks process environment.
  • Develop,
    implement and maintain a value adding regime of key performance
    indicators, business metrics and external benchmarking data that enables
    business decisions.
  • Provide
    business support and services by hosting and managing clearing operations,
    Trade services, Treasury Operations, Currency Services, Account Services
    and Central Reconciliation.
  • Lead
    and manage all logistics activities to ensure that there is ongoing
    support to critical business activities with regards to transport,
    facilities and security.
  • Deliver
    the procurement strategy for the bank to achieve target business and
    financial value for goods and services procured. This includes supplier
    management, compliance to procurement policies and guidelines and supply
    chain reporting.
  • Provide
    leadership in the design of all the bank’s processes and procedures to
    ensure that there is an effective Process Management Framework that focuses
    on the customer, and addresses the risks that are inherent in the
    business.
  • Proactively
    manage all risk arising from banking operations by consistently applying
    the risk management framework across the Operations & Logistics
    functions.
  • Provide
    guidance and skills support through the bank’s Ltd Project Management
    Framework to ensure that all projects are delivered on time, within cost
    and that the outcomes satisfy customer and end user expectations.
  • Guide
    the branches and Head Office units in the reconciliation process to ensure
    that all transactions are raised and posted in accordance to guidelines
    relating to Agency, Suspense and Differences accounts in order to mitigate
    the risk of loss and comply with the bank’s policies and BNR guidelines. This
    covers all reconcilable accounts, agency, settlement and suspense accounts
    for ordinary banking and Money Transfer Services.
  • Provide
    leadership in the management of Currency services to ensure that the
    bank’s cash holding is well managed, and that all branches have adequate,
    but not excess cash on premises. In addition, also ensure that all the
    bank’s ATMs are operating optimally and are supplied with adequate cash.
  • Develop,
    review and report on Operations & Logistics’ strategy, ensuring the
    strategic objectives are well understood and well executed by department
    managers
  • Drive
    efficiency, cost minimization and value for money in all departmental
    deliverables. Enforce a pro-active and sound operational risk management
    culture in Operations department.
  • Overall
    leadership of the Operations & Logistics Department Team.
The
Person:
For
the above position, the successful applicant should have the following minimum
requirements:
  • University
    Degree preferably in Business related field. A post graduate and or
    Banking qualification will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum
    of 10 years’ experience in banking operations, with at least five years in
    a senior management position with budgetary responsibility.
  • Be
    well versed in Banking systems, procedures and processes.
  • Excellent
    Cross-Cultural People Management skills, Team Motivation and Leadership
    Competence.
  • A
    good understanding of Banking Law and Practice as well as Corporate
    Governance Principles. 
  • Sound
    IT proficiency.
  • An
    appreciation of Risk Management and Knowledge of internal controls.
  • Proven
    project management experience and knowledge.
  • Strong
    networking and interpersonal skills with proven people, leadership,
    communication and negotiation skills
  • Self-empowerment
    to enable development of open communication, teamwork and trust that are
    needed to support performance and customer-service oriented culture.
