Project
background:

The
USAID/Rwanda Private Sector Driven Agricultural Growth Project (PSDAG) is a
five-year feed the Future (FtF) activity implemented by ENGILITY
Corporation/IRG. The project was created in line with Government of Rwanda
(GoR) targets and aims to develop a strategic partnership between the Rwandan
public and private sectors to improve investment mobilization and create
economic opportunity for smallholder farmers through increased value chain
market integration. The project’s principle objectives are:
Objective
1:
Assisting
the GoR to attract and increase private sector investment; and
Objective
2:

Facilitating increased private sector investment by upgrading agricultural
value chains.
Objective:
PSDAG
is offering a 6 -month internship program to recent college/ advanced degree
graduates, or to those who have completed at least two years of university
coursework. The program is intended to give graduates and students practical
experience that will enable them to enter more professional, long-term
employment. 
The
Private Sector Partnerships Intern will support PSDAG Objective 2 staff
in the efforts to:
  • Increase
    private sector investment in agriculture to transform agriculture into a
    market-oriented, competitive, and high value sector by supporting
    agro-processing industries, mechanization and modernization of
    agriculture; and provide a risk management program;
  • Identify
    end market opportunities and link value chain actors to identified
    opportunities;
  • Strengthen
    vertical and horizontal value chain linkages and build capacity in
    selected value chains;
  • Strengthen
    input supply and other supporting services and improve smallholder access
    to these interconnected markets;
  • Improve
    the enabling environment for local and regional private sector investment
    through public/private dialogue (link to Objective 1).
Responsibilities:
  • Support
    the Objective 2 team in designing and implementing value chain upgrading
    strategies, addressing production, post-harvest, processing and marketing
    priorities through market-driven sustainable approaches.
  • Provide
    support to production and review of partner deliverables.
  • Contribute
    to Requests for Applications (RFAs), grantee vetting, and other work
    products under the Value Chain Competitiveness Fund.
  • Provide
    administrative and technical support to the Objective 2 team for assigned
    projects. This may entail drafting meeting notes, technical aspects of
    scopes of work and other project documents; coordinating technical review
    committeesand other multi-stakeholder events; and reviewing technical
    deliverables, among others.
  • Contribute
    to primary and secondary research to inform the analysis of policy and
    regulatory constraints to agriculture and agribusiness investment
    profitability, competitiveness and attractiveness.
  • Contribute
    to Objective 2 team development of annual work plans, monthly, quarterly
    and annual reports, discreet analytical documents, performance monitoring,
    presentations, success stories and other strategic and operational
    reporting.  
  • Perform
    any other task as assigned by the Chief of Party or her designee.
The
Intern will report directly to the Senior Value Chain Specialist or her
designee, and will work collaboratively with other PSDAG staff in contributing
to the achievement of project objectives.
Qualifications
and Eligibility
  • Recent
    college/ advanced degree graduates with less than 1 year of professional
    work experience in related field are eligible.
  • Strong
    coursework in the field of agricultural development/ policy/ economic
    growth or related area is required.
  • Proficiency
    in Word and basic skills in Excel are required.
  • Fluency
    in English and Kinyarwanda is required.
  • High-performing
    educational background (based on GPA) is preferred.
  • Strong
    desire for personal and professional growth is preferred.
  • Self-starter
    with the demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a team
    to assist the project achieve its objectives is preferred.
  • Demonstrated
    leadership experience in work, volunteer positions, clubs, etc. is a plus
  • Knowledge
    of Information Communication Technology (ICT) applications is a plus.
