Rotary Peace Fellowships for International Students

The Rotary
Foundation is offering 100 fully funded academic fellowships for
world-wide students. Two types of peace fellowships are available i.e. master
and professional development certificate fellowships.

The fellowships
are intended for individuals who have chosen a career related to
international relations, peace, and conflict resolution; who have work
experience in these areas and who have a commitment to

community or international
humanitarian service and to working for peace. Applicants should consider these
objectives carefully before applying.

The Rotary Peace
Fellowship is the premier academic scholarship of The Rotary Foundation,
supporting Rotary’s mission to empower, educate, and increase the capacity of
peacebuilders through rigorous academic training, practice, and global
networking opportunities.

International
applicants for whom English is not the first language must submit a TOEFL or
IELTS score. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) iBT: Score 100
or higher (600 on the paper-based test) and IELTS (International English
Language Testing System) – Score 7.0 or higher.

Course
Level:

Fellows will earn a master degree at Duke University and University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill in USA, International Christian University in
Japan, University of Bradford in UK, University of Queensland in Australia and
Uppsala University in Sweden or a professional development certificate at
Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand.

Scholarship
Award:

These
fellowships cover tuition and fees, room and board, round-trip transportation,
and all internship and field-study expenses.

Eligibility: The Rotary Peace Fellowship
is designed for professionals with work experience in international relations
or peace and conflict prevention and resolution. Fellows are committed to
community and international service and the pursuit of peace. Applicants must
also meet the following requirements:

  • Proficiency
    in English; proficiency in a second language is strongly recommended.
  • Strong
    commitment to international understanding and peace as demonstrated
    through professional and academic achievements and personal or community
    service.
  • Excellent
    leadership skills.
  • Master’s
    degree applicants: minimum three years of related full-time work or
    volunteer experience, bachelor’s degree.
  • Certificate
    applicants: minimum five years of related full-time work or volunteer
    experience, strong academic background.

Nationality: Citizens from around the
world are eligible for these Rotary Peace fellowships.

The
required components for complete application packet are as follows:-
Resume or curriculum vitae: All applicants are required to submit a current
résumé or curriculum vitae, in English, with their application form. The
document must include the months and years worked for every job, internship, or
volunteer experience included.
Recommendation Form: All applicants are required to submit two recommendations.
They should be completed by individuals familiar with the academic,
professional, or volunteer/service activities and achievements of the
applicant. They encourage applicants to inform recommenders of the Rotary Peace
Fellowship program’s purpose. Recommenders must personally sign the forms.
Master’s degree program applicants are required to submit one professional
recommendation and one academic recommendation.
Professional development certificate applicants are required to submit two
professional recommendations, one of which must be completed by the applicant’s
current employer.

How to
Apply:
Follow
these steps to ensure that application receives consideration. Find complete
information about the process in the application and frequently asked questions
document.

  • Read
    the entire application before beginning.
  • Thoroughly
    research the curriculum and programs at each of the Rotary Peace Centers.
  • Master’s
    degree applicants: Collect all academic transcripts, test scores, and any
    other documents required by preferred universities as noted on the
    fellowship application. All supplementary materials must be in
    English. Certificate applicants: Academic transcripts or scores are
    not needed.
  • Inform
    local Rotary district that student is applying for a peace fellowship, and
    request an interview. District endorsement is required to complete the
    application process. TIP: Applicant’s local Rotary club can help them
    to connect with their district. Use Club Finder to locate the club
    nearest them. Club interviews and endorsements are strongly encouraged but
    not required for applicants who have district support.
  • Prior to
    interviews, fill out the application form, attach the required
    supplementary materials (test scores, academic or professional
    recommendations, essays), and submit them to their Rotary district no
    later than 31 May.
  • Complete
    an interview with district representatives. Districts must submit endorsed
    applications to The Rotary Foundation by 1 July.
  • Apply
    for admission to the university where they will study. Being chosen for a
    fellowship does not mean they have been admitted to the university.
