Tulane
International LLC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tulane University, a US-based
tertiary education institution. Tulane, present in Rwanda since 2000, aims to
strengthen higher education via the integration of human and institutional
capacity development and innovative technology. Tulane International LLC in
Rwanda is seeking a dynamic individual to provide teaching and professional
development support to faculty, staff and students in order cultivate improved
and innovative teaching and learning practices at the University of Rwanda
College of Medicine and Health Sciences (UR-CMHS). This is an excellent

Responsibilities
Teaching
and Professional Development (40%)
  • Lead
    workshops with faculty and students to develop new, effective and
    efficient methods of teaching and learning with technology and digital
    resources.
  • Provide
    instructional support to a program of Online Professional Development,
    modeling best practices for online teaching and learning.
  • Meet
    one-on-one and in groups with UR and CMHS faculty and staff, providing
    on-demand training and support for the appropriate integration of new
    tools and systems to enhance teaching and learning.
Education
Innovation Network Support (30%)
  • Build
    peer-support and distributed leadership among staff and faculty for
    day-to-day innovation efforts across CMHS campuses.
  • Support
    a cohort of 40 Teaching and Learning Fellows at UR in the
    identification of opportunities for improving teaching and learning
    practices, and in the design and implementation of innovations.
  • Regularly
    liaise with Fellowship Program leadership and Lead Fellows to
    ensure professional development activities are articulated to staff and
    faculty needs, appropriately scheduled, and well-attended. 
  • Respond
    to network support needs related to online pedagogy, assessment,
    instructional design and course-building on CMHS Learning System
    (Moodle).  Leverage Moodle Systems Administrators to resolve learner
    and faculty issues with new online learning systems, including content
    uploading, content access, account requests, system functionality queries.
Program
Design (20%)
  • Contribute
    to the ongoing conceptual and technical design of curricula and
    programming to enhance learning and teaching practices at US CMHS.
  • Design
    specific face-to-face, online and blended learning activities, digital
    resources and assessments to support professional development activities.
  • Advise
    on priorities for the development of instructional systems at UR CMHS.
Assessment,
Monitoring and Reporting (10%)
  • Contribute
    to curriculum and course review activities.
  • Contribute
    to the collection of qualitative and quantitative data for program
    formation, adaption and impact measurement.
  • Track
    and report on a core set of process, learning and outcome indicators among
    fellows and staff participants in professional development.
  • Contribute
    to a public blog highlighting innovation and lessons learned for teaching
    and learning at UR and CMHS.
Required
Qualifications:
  • Master’s
    degree, preferably in the Health Sciences, Education, Instructional
    Design, Instructional Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • Bachelor’s
    degree considered with deep experience, or with relevant certificates or
    specializations (e.g. in Instructional Technology).
  • Experience
    teaching or leading trainings or professional development activities,
    preferably in an adult or higher education setting.
  • Deep
    knowledge of curriculum and course design, active and student-centered
    teaching and learning methods for the health sciences, and learning
    assessment.
  • Appreciation
    for and understanding of the potential role that technology and new media
    can play in transforming education in Rwanda. Understanding of common
    obstacles to technology integration.
  • High
    degree of comfort in the day-to-day use of web-based and social
    technologies for productivity, scholarship, teaching and learning,
    including use of learning management systems and online assessment
    systems.
  • Excellent
    written and oral skills in English and Kinyarwanda. Knowledge of French is
    an added advantage
  • Demonstrated
    organizational and communication skills
Preferred
Qualifications:
  • PhD
    in health sciences, education, instructional design, instructional
    technology, or equivalent experience
  • Teaching
    or training experience, especially in higher education setting
  • Knowledge
    of the health sciences higher education context.
  • Knowledge
    of Rwandan or regional higher education context.
  • Knowledge
    of contemporary pedagogy and learning theory
  • Digital
    media production skills (web, audio, video, graphic)
