How Landscaping Turned Our Yard Into a Favorite Hangout

When we bought our home in Brookfield, CT, we knew the yard had potential, but potential is just another word for a lot of work. It was overgrown, uneven, and not exactly inviting. For a long time, it was just “that patch of grass” we avoided. We always talked about making it better, but life kept getting in the way. That changed when we decided to call All Season’s Maintenance for help with landscaping. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions we’ve made for our home.

We weren’t expecting miracles—just something usable. We had visions of a space where we could grill, let the kids play, and maybe even have a few friends over without worrying about someone twisting an ankle in a dip in the lawn. What we got was so much more.

More Than Just Mowing and Mulch

From the first consultation, we could tell we were in good hands. The team didn’t rush us or try to upsell anything. They asked real questions about how we wanted to use the space, what our routines were like, and even what colors and plants we liked (or didn’t). It felt more like a collaboration than a transaction, which, honestly, is rare these days.

The landscaping plan they put together was thoughtful, not just pretty on paper, but practical too. They suggested solutions we’d never considered, like adding low-voltage lighting to extend our time outside or choosing native plants that thrive in Connecticut’s climate. We appreciated that they considered long-term upkeep, not just short-term beauty.

A Space That Changed How We Live

Installation happened over the course of a couple weeks. It was smooth, professional, and surprisingly quiet. Watching the transformation was exciting. Sod replaced patchy grass, a small patio went in near the back door, and flower beds curved gracefully around our new seating area. They even built a small fire pit, which instantly became a favorite spot for after-dinner marshmallow roasts.

Something shifted in our family once the landscaping was complete. We started spending more time outdoors, even on weeknights. The kids began using the yard without being asked to unplug. My husband and I found ourselves lingering outside longer after dinner, glass of wine in hand, catching up on things we usually saved for rushed conversations.

Weekends used to mean figuring out what to do away from home. Now, we find ourselves inviting friends over more often. We’ve hosted birthday parties, last-minute barbecues, and quiet Sunday brunches under the trees. It’s like our yard finally became part of our home, and one of our favorite places to be.

The Hidden Benefits of Landscaping

What we didn’t expect were the subtle benefits. Our utility bills actually dipped a bit, and strategically placed shrubs helped shade parts of the house in the afternoon sun. The yard is quieter now too, thanks to plantings that act as a sound buffer from the street. And, not to get too practical, but the value of our home definitely improved. It’s not the reason we did it, but it doesn’t hurt knowing that the investment made sense financially as well.

More importantly, it gave us something that’s hard to measure: a sense of pride. It feels good to pull into the driveway and see a space that reflects us—calm, welcoming, and well cared for.

Lessons We Learned Along the Way

If I had any advice for someone considering a landscaping project, it would be this: Don’t wait. We spent years thinking we’d get around to it eventually, and in the meantime, we missed out on so much use and enjoyment. Also, work with professionals who listen. We had no shortage of ideas, but the team at All Season’s Maintenance knew how to turn them into a functional design that really made sense.

It’s easy to get overwhelmed by options or worry about the cost, but start with a conversation. Even small changes can have a big impact. And if you’re in Brookfield or anywhere nearby, we can’t recommend All Season’s Maintenance enough. They didn’t just improve our yard—they helped us fall in love with our home all over again.
