If you plan on launching a small boat or even a tinny, this is a must-visit spot. If you’d prefer to stay closer to town, the jetty is a great option. You may even catch a prawn here! 

Jacobs Well is a great place for beginners and those wishing to score a bigger catch, as the fish are famed for always biting here, with bait fishing being the traditional style. Anglers use Yabbies or worms for Bream and Whiting, whitebait, and pilchards for Flathead and Taylor.
 

Another point to note? This area is celebrated for its oversized Flathead, which only the brave are often keen to try their hand catching!

3.The Gold Coast Seaway

Located on the Spit, Main Beach, adjacent to South Stradbroke Island, the Seaway comes in the shape of a large, speedy-moving body of water, which connects the Nerang River with the Pacific Ocean. Those who journey here can expect to catch everything from Jewfish to Yellowtail, Kingfish, Flathead, and more, and all can be caught off the rocks all year round.  

However, the tides here can be tricky to master, which makes it a better spot for those looking for a challenge. You can also fish off the jetty here, which is a great shout for beginners; just be sure to keep your line close as this area is also a hot spot for jet skiers.  

Looking to catch a bigger fish? The sand-pumping jetty is a great option, although it will cost a few dollars to fish on. However, this is worth it for the massive fish you can reel here, which will feed you and your entire family! 

4.Paradise Point Foreshore

Perhaps one of the prettiest fishing spots on our list and an excellent option for everyone from amateurs to old hands, Paradise Point, located on the Esplanade, is undoubtedly one of the top six fishing spots on the Gold Coast. Even those who don’t fish will enjoy visiting this little paradise. Just pack a cool box and a few deck chairs, and round up a handful of your favorite friends.  

You can easily spend the entire day here, soaking up the sunshine, throwing in lines, and reeling in your catch. From Bream to Flathead, to Mangrove Jack, and an array of other popular fish, there is plenty to catch here. Failing that, it’s worth a visit for the scenery alone.
 

5.Tallebudgera

Tallebudgera Creek—or as the locals have nicknamed it, ‘Tally Creek’ connects with the ocean from Burleigh Head National Park. Looking to catch a Flathead or two? The river mouth is a go-to spot, especially if you’re in a tinny.

Alternatively, you can explore the inland area of Tallebudgera Creek. Here, you can expect to catch Whiting, Bream, Luderick, and the famed Mangrove Jack. Tally is an area that has something for all.  

If you prefer to cast your line from the shore, it is worth noting that most of the creek is easily accessible, particularly upstream, where you will find plenty of parking.
