Ugandan striker, Mutebi threatens to walk away from Etincelles

Ugandan striker, Rachid Mutebi, threatened to abandon Etincelles in the midst of the sour relationship with the Rubavu side.

It was understood that the 23-year old has started talks with Rwanda Premier League rivals Musanze, and he has formally requested for a release letter from Etincelles despite still remaining with one year of contract with the club.

Mutebi faults Etincelles for lack of support for players, and especially for him.

“I have not been paid in a lot time and they [Etincelles] continue to play little tricks behind my back. I think I have been left with no choice but to leave,” said the forward.

Mutebi, who scored eight goals last season in the league, joined Mukura Victory Sport’s Etincelles on a two year contract in September 2019.

He ‘d previously played in the local topflight league for Bidico FC, Sadolin FC and SC Villa, all in Uganda, and Gicumbi. The forward also played a key role in winning the 2018 Peace Cup, as Mukura ended her 26-year international title drought.

Following the Covid-19 pandemic’s premature end of the 2019-20 season last month, it is reported that at least 11 of the 16-team league will not pay players – since April – until the 2020-21 campaign begins in September or October.

APR were crowned champions as table leaders at match-day 23 of the 30-game season, while Heroes FC and Gicumbi were relegated to second division.
