Court in Paris rules on transfer of Kabuga’s case to Arusha

The main perpetrator of genocide in Rwanda, Felicien Kabuga, who was recently charged, will face trial at the International Residual Mechanism Criminal Tribunal located in Arusha Tanzania, has been overruled by the Paris Court of Appeal.

The court ignored safety issues that were tabled last week by Kabuga ‘s lawyers in the trial, and other procedures that they said the court did not recognize.

Last week, Kabuga appeared before the court and challenged his move to Arusha and asked the court to let him go to the home of his children who “know better how to handle his health conditions”, pending his trial.

Kabuga was arrested in Paris-France on May 16 , 2020, 26 years after evading justice for crimes committed during the 1994 Tutsi genocide that took more than one million lives in Rwanda.

In 1997, the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda indicted Kabuga on seven charges of genocide, involvement in genocide, overt and public incitement to commit genocide, attempted genocide, conspiracy to commit genocide, persecution and extermination, all in connection with crimes committed in Rwanda during the 1994 genocide against the Tutsis.
