On Sunday the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Jigawa State confirmed the death of one of its members, Nasir Adam, from complications with coronavirus.
Mr Adam who died was 36 years old.
The state chairman of the NMA, Nura Basirka, told Dutse journalists that Mr Adam died of acute respiratory disease that was later reported as COVID-19 after the test result.
“Until his death, Mr Adam was the Medical Officer in the Department of Internal Medicine, Federal Medical Centre, Birnin Kudu, Jigawa state, Mr Basirka said.
Late Mr Adam was born in 1984, in Jos, Plateau State. He attended elementary and secondary schools in Jos, and in 2012 graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He was at the Federal Medical Centre, doing his housemanship.
NCDC data reveals that 29 health workers contracted coronavirus and recovered from the virus in Jigawa.
On Saturday the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) reported 553 new infections across Nigeria with Jigawa having five cases, taking the state’s total confirmed cases to 270.
The NCDC has also reported 12 more deaths across the country. It failed to note the state(s) in which the deaths took place. However, the state recorded one of the deaths in Jigawa, a government statement said. Two of the deaths had been reported in nearby Kano State, officials said.
Saturday the Kano State Ministry of Health announced that the two deaths brought the total state-wide fatalities from the virus to 43.
The Ministry of Health also said the state discharged eight additional COVID-19 cases in its late Saturday tweet, as total discharged now stands at 200.
To date Kano has reported 951 cases of COVID-19.
