Meg Lanning, the captain of the Australian women’s cricket team, is regarded one of the team’s most prolific limited-over players. The 27-year-old smashed 12 centuries, mostly by any woman cricketer, while at Twenty20 Internationals, when she smashed 126 against Ireland Women in the 2014 World T20, she held the record for the highest individual score in the format. Recently, Dutch player Sterre Kalis smashed 126 * to overtake Lanning’s record for Dutch females against Germany Women.
However, Lanning reclaimed the record in grand style as records were broken in the Twenty20 International between England and Australia at Chelmsford. Lanning smashed 133 in a wonderful hit display and the knock included 17 fours and seven sixes as Australia hit 226/3, a team’s fifth-highest score in Twenty20 Internationals.
Lanning was in good shape and shared a 134-run booth with Beth Mooney and a 66-run booth with Ashleigh Gardner as Australia scored a total. Once again, her knock produced her Twenty20 Internationals ‘ largest individual scorer. Her seven-six count is the fourth best by a batter, behind West Indies duo Deandra Dottin and Hayley Mathews ‘ nine-six count followed by India’s Harmanpreet Kaur who smashed eight sixes in the 2018 ICC World T20 encounter in Guyana during her century against New Zealand.
In reaction, England was blown away by Megan Schutt’s sensational bowling spell as she picked up 3/25 and 2/11 from Ellyse Perry as Australia registered a commanding 93-run victory to continue their Ashes domination that saw them sweep the ODI series 3-0 and draw the one-off test match to get the Urn back.
