Gunmen murdered an uncle to Ishaku Abbo, the senator recently seen in a video assaulting a lady.
During an assault on his home state of Adamawa on Saturday, the assailants also kidnapped Mr Abbo’s nursing stepmother.
Police and local people said the attack took place in Muchalla ward in Adamawa State’s Mubi North Local Government.
Stepmother of the lawmaker gave birth approximately 11 days earlier, said family and friends.
Locals informed journalists that the incident occurred around 1 p.m.
One witness said the gunmen on arriving at the area, “went straight to senator Ishaku Abbo’s family house and abducted the senator’s nursing stepmother who delivered about 11 days ago.”
“As they made their way with the victim, Abbo’s uncle came out of his room and on sighting the gunmen, raised alarm.
“Immediately, the gunmen opened fire on him leading to his death and they went away with the victim unchallenged. Right now the village is in mourning,” the witness said.
The incident was verified by the police spokesperson in the state, Sulaiman Nguroje.
He said the police were deployed and are on the assailants ‘ trail at the moment.
“Our men from the IG rapid response team, in conjunction with men from anti-kidnapping unit, as well as men from homicide unit, have been deployed in order to rescue (the victim) and arrest the suspects,” he said.
Despite weak public assurances to provide safety, abductions and murders of Nigerians have worsened in areas of Nigeria in latest weeks.
On Friday, the daughter of the Yoruba socio-cultural group’s top official, Afenifere was murdered by armed herders along the Ondo State Ore axis.
