JAMB releases more UTME results

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) released 4,636 more of its recent Unified Tertiary Examination (UTME) results.

Fabian Benjamin, Head, Media and Information of the board, made this announcement in a statement in Lagos on Friday.

The results released were among the 34,120 initially withheld when the results were announced on May 11.

The board’s registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, explained that out of the total number of withheld results, the results of 15,145 candidates were withheld as identical twins and siblings for further clarification.

A total of 1,868,508 candidates had registered for the April 11-April 18 examination.

“Today, after considering the screening committee set up for the 4,760 candidates whose results were withheld due to multiple facial matches with different names, JAMB finally released the results of 4,536 complications absolved during the 2019 UTME.”

“This release became necessary after specialized software and IT experts recognized the facial match.”

“The board also released the results of 231 other sets of candidates sitting at the Nigeria Navy Secondary School, Abeokuta in Ogun for the same examination,” added Mr Benjamin.

He further explained that it was discovered from diligent investigation that not all of these candidates had a hand in everything that happened in that school.

The spokesman said the center was suspended by the board for what he described as unacceptable acts since then.

He further noted that the board would submit the results of 127 more candidates for further physical examination out of the total number of candidates subjected to the screening.

“We will soon contact those who will be subjected to this further physical examination.

“In order to clarify other likely multiplicity areas, they must appear before an inspection team,” he said.

Mr Benjamin disclosed that for convenience and easy accessibility, the 127 candidates were grouped into zones.

‘ Candidates from the South West will converge at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) office in Yaba, Lagos, whereas candidates from Ibadan and Ekiti will converge at the JAMB offices in Ibadan and Oyo.

“Those in the South-East will converge in Owerri in Imo, while those in the North-East will be screened in Gombe’s board office, while candidates in the North-West will be screened in Kaduna.

“Others from the north-central states like Kwara will converge in Ilorin, while those from Plateau, Nassarawa and the Federal Capital Territory will converge in Abuja’s board headquarters,” he said.

According to him, the outcome of 97 others who were found to be involved in multiple registration and other forms of infringement have still withheld their results.
