Olayinka Adegbehingbe, a university lecturer in Nigeria, has been kidnapped.
Mr Adegbehingbe is a professor at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Health Sciences College, Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology.
Our correspondent found he had been kidnapped during a robbery attack that took place around 9:15 p.m. along the Ife / Ibadan expressway. He was traveling from Ibadan to Ife on Sunday.
Mr Adegbehingbe, who was in his vehicle, was singled out and kidnapped from all the vehicles attacked.
Babatunde Oyatokun, OAU’s Chief Security Officer (CSO), said efforts are being made to rescue the victim.
“Yes, I’m at Apomu at the moment. Since yesterday I wasn’t in Ife. They came from Ibadan but were (were) attacked by armed robbers between Asejire and Apomu. He was singled out while they attacked all the vehicles on the road at that time. He was picked and taken away.
“His wife is with us, too, and we were able to report the case and the police are on top of the situation. So, I’m here in Apomu to take the madam (kidnapped lecturer’s wife) to Ife because she was there during the attack as well,” he said.
The incident was also confirmed by the Police Area Commander in Ile-Ife, Folorunsho Adegboye. He said, however, that he was unable to speak on the matter officially because he was on leave.
