Most
owners of sawmill industries lack enough finance to purchase needed equipment,
pay workers and maintain sawmill facilities (Bamikole, 2007).

Inadequate availability of skilled personnel
This
is a serious challenge to production of quality wood products. The paucity (insufficient)
of skilled manpower is prevalent in the industry as technical school workers
are few and not many people are willing to make a career of sawmilling and
furniture making (Dada, 2011). Although, manpower training in the private
sector of wood based industries is carried out to certain level, it has little
or no link to formal education. Therefore, most activities in the sawmill
industries are done by few workers.

iii.
Poor quality standard
Quality
standard of sawmill industries are not being practiced such as the use of kiln
seasoned wood for furniture items. In most cases, as a result of lack of
facilities, most sawmill industries use air dried or green wood for production,
this increases product susceptibility to attack by wood destroying agents (Ogunwusi,
2011).

iv.
Lack of infrastructure
Lack of infrastructure
The
most important of these is energy. The processes involved in the processing of
wood items are strictly tied to the use of equipment and machinery, which are
powered by electricity. Most manufacturers depend on alternative energy supply
for full operation. Adam (2016) stated that lack of adequate infrastructure is
an impediment to the development of the wider economy, leading to high cost of
production.

Difficulty
in clearing imported facilities at the sea port as a result of poor congestion
is a major problem in sawmill industries in Nigeria, resulting in payment of
terminal charges, thereby taking a long duration of time to obtain container
deposits leading to inability to meet speedy and punctual delivery of finished
goods (Arowosoge, 2010).
